We’ve barely seen a cloud in the sky in the southern half of England since early May, in what has been a truly outstanding summer so far for the sun lovers. There’s few better racecourses on earth when the sun is shining than Newmarket’s July course and their feature three day meeting kicks off on Thursday...
Thursday @ Newmarket - 2.25 - ADVERTISE Best Current Odds: 7/2 at Paddy Power & Betfair
This is a really exciting son of Showcasing, with a real physical presence and loads of potential as a sprinting prospect for trainer Martyn Meade. He really caught the eye when running 2nd to the brilliant juvenile Calyx in the Coventry Stakes and he’s sure to make his presence felt in this if taking his chance. The race will suit if he turns up and he’s one to look forward to in any case.
Thursday @ Newmarket - 3.35 - MIRAGE DANCER Best Current Odds: 10/3 Ladbrokes
This son of Frankel gained some valuable Group class experience as a 3yo, without getting a win on the board, but after a string of promising and generally progressive runs at Listed level lately, Sir Michael Stoute’s inmate looks ready to take another dip into Group 2 company. He really caught the eye in a quality renewal of the Wolferton at Royal Ascot last time out and will be fancied to run a very big race here.
Friday @ Newmarket - 2.25 - LA PELOSA Best Current Odds: 7/2 Betfred, Paddy Power
There is a theme emerging here of horses that caught the eye at Royal Ascot and here is another one folks. This improving Godolphin owned filly finished a tremendous 2nd in the Albany Stakes there, splitting the more experienced Fairyland and Main Edition in the process. She can only improve for that experience and the daughter of Dandy Man displays a very willing attitude. She’s pretty good.
Friday @ Newmarket - 3.35 - ALPHA CENTAURI Best Current Odds: 4/5 with 888sport and bet365
In posting an RPR of 122 and a Topspeed figure of 118 in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, Jessica Harrington’s star filly smashed the track record and established herself a true Champion in the making. She simply has to be on this list of horses to look forward to this weekend indeed, if she brings the same of a similar level of ability to the table on Friday, she’ll be worthy of inclusion in all your multiples.
Saturday @ Newmarket - 2.15 - DREAMFIELD Best Current Odds: 10/1 Generally
Dreamfield was a monsterous gamble for the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot and apart from not winning, this son of Oasis Dream filled the eye with potential and with Harry Angel now out, the July Cup doesn’t look the most intimidating of races for John Gosden’s lightly-raced sprinter. He is certainly the most exciting Dark Horse in the July Cup field for the big race on Saturday and at 10/1, he could shorten a bit between now and then.
