All Eyes On Ascot For The CopyBet Race Weekender

Entries have been revealed for Friday and Saturday’s eagerly anticipated racing action at Ascot in the CopyBet Race Weekender and Paul Nicholls’ Pic D’Orhy will be aiming to defend his CopyBet 1965 Chase crown in the feature race on Saturday after winning it in style last year.

If Pic D’Orhy is triumphant again it will be a record-extending ninth win in this race for Paul Nicholls, but he is likely to have some fierce competition from the likes of fellow Grade 1 winner Le Patron and veteran, three-time winner at Ascot, Dashel Drasher.

The Friday racecard sees several competitive handicap chases, with the feature race being the CopyBet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase which offers a potential starting point over larger obstacles for novice hurdler Gidleigh Park. Headline races on the Saturday include the aforementioned Grade 2 CopyBet 1965 Chase and the Grade 2 Ascot Hurdle. Both races have a brilliant history of attracting some of the biggest names in the sport, with racegoers having fond memories of the CopyBet 1965 Chase which in 2019 saw an incredible head-to-head battle between Altior and Cyrname.

This meet marks the inaugural sponsorship of the event by sportsbook CopyBet and gives punters and spectators a great opportunity to witness some of the stars of the future in action. The likes of Chantry House, Angels Breath, Many Clouds and Simonsig have featured on this card in the past and gone on to become household names in the horse racing world.

Irish jockey Jonathan Burke, CopyBet’s horse racing ambassador, enjoyed great success at last year’s event, with three victories including the Garden for All Seasons Handicap Hurdle on Gin Coco. He’ll be hoping to have cause for celebrations again this time around and is set for three rides on Friday,  on Oak Grove in the Safer Gambling Week ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle, Law of Supply in the CopyBet UK Handicap Chase and Kdeux Saint Frey in the final race of the day, the Not Forgotten Open NH Flat Race.
