Sunset BreezeThe ITV cameras are spread around three meetings this Saturday, as ITV4 plays host to a feast of eight live races – including the Lingfield Oaks and Derby trials. With such a plethora of racing action in prospect, The Ante-Post Angle is back in action, providing their expert preview – and an early ante-post selection – for all eight broadcast races. Read The Ante-Post Angle’s thoughts below, which come alongside a cracking 888sport offer, which gives up to £100 in free bets.

POET’S LADY 14/11.55 Ascot (EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap)

Lights On looks like an archetypal Sir Michael Stoute improver and rightly heads the market here for Saturday’s EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap. She did travel on what looks something of a golden highway at Nottingham last time out, however, and therefore is a little flattered by the distance she put between herself and POET’S LADY – who looks worth chancing at a generous 14/1 price.

Only fifth in that aforementioned Nottingham contest, Poet’s Lady raced prominently from the slower far rail. She was only 9/4 for that race, yet finds herself available at 14/1 here, which looks too big considering that she will appreciate any rainfall that falls in Berkshire this week and represents a yard (David Barron) that has made a strong start to the season.

LOVING DREAM 6/12.15 Lingfield (Lingfield Oaks Trial)

Technique ran well against the colts at Epsom last month, only being headed close home. She will appreciate going back up against her own sex here but may have to settle for second place once again should LOVING DREAM make the line-up.

This daughter of Gleneagles stayed on resolutely to land a Wolverhampton maiden in December, and she bumped into the smart Noon Star when attempting to follow up at Wetherby last time out. The front two pulled well clear of the remainder that day, and as that was Loving Dream’s first start on turf, improvement can be expected.

Her pedigree offers plenty of potential for Saturday’s step up in trip (dam Kissable Listed winner over 1m4f), and trainer John Gosden has trained three of the last four winners of this race – so the current 6/1 available for her makes plenty of appeal.

LAAFY 12/12.30 Ascot (Buckhounds Stakes)

The enigmatic Laafy ran below his best at Nottingham last month, yet with the winner (Sir Ron Priestley) going in again in Group 2 company since, and the runner-up (Ocean Wind) subsequently giving Stradivarius a real scare at Ascot – that form already looks very strong.

The slower ground conditions expected here should suit Laafy far better, and an official rating of 103 really doesn’t leave him with a great deal to find in this company.

An impressive course and distance winner last season, a return to that level of form should see Laafy outrun his current 12/1 odds.

DANCING KING 20/12.50 Lingfield (Lingfield Derby Trial)

The presence of current Derby favourite High Definition in this line-up is a tantalising one yet should Aidan O’Brien’s colt make it here on Saturday, he may well scare a number of potential challengers away.

With that in mind, and with three places currently available, the vote goes to the progressive DANCING KING. Mark Johnston’s charge has proven ultra-reliable since being gelded over the winter – returning to action with three straight wins.

He won with ears pricked at Leicester a fortnight ago, seeing off the challenge of three significantly less exposed rivals. There is no telling where the ceiling currently is for Dancing King, and with that in mind, he looks a value each way play at his current 20/1 odds.

BALLINSKER 14/13.10 Haydock (Swinton Handicap Hurdle)

Evan Williams has farmed this race in recent years, sending out four of the last seven winners, and as such, it is slightly surprising to see his BALLINSKER freely available at 14/1 odds.

This six-year-old son of Court Cave had subsequent Grade 1 winner Belfast Banter behind in an Irish point and accounted for the now 135-rated chaser Evander on his stable/hurdles debut at Ludlow back in October 2019.

Ballinsker split Milkwood (now 150-rated) and Stimulating Song (now 134-rated) when meeting the pair off level weights at Ffos Las last year – suggesting that his current rating of 126 is well within reach. Arriving here fresher than most rivals, having been last seen finishing down the field in the Betfair Hurdle, Ballinsker should prove a major player if sneaking into this race at the foot of the weights (currently needs 1 to come out).

Any News looked a potential graded novice hurdler at points last season and can be expected to give the selection most to think about.

AXANA 7/13.25 Lingfield (Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes)

This looks a modest Group 3, to say the least, and it may ultimately turn out to be an inspired bit of placing by German trainer Andreas Wohler, who sends AXANA over here.

The only five-year-old in the line-up, Axana looked slightly unfortunate not to land a Listed race at Hanover last May when a fast-finishing second to subsequent Group 3 winner Jin Jin. She took a Listed race at Hoppegarten on her seasonal reappearance last month, and the second has already franked that form by finishing second in a French Group 3 on her next start.

That Hoppegarten victory took Axana’s career record to a more than respectable 5-10, and unlike most in this field she has already proven herself up to Group level, having taken two Group 3’s as a three-year-old. With the various restrictions currently in place it seems unlikely that her connections would send her here unless that thought she held a big chance, and as such the current 7/1 available on Axana looks more than fair.

SUNSET BREEZE 16/13.40 Ascot (Victoria Cup Handicap)

Sir Mark Prescott struck with his first turf runner of 2021 (bringing his strike rate overall in 2021 to just shy of 40%) when Alpinista scored at Goodwood over the weekend, and he can continue that vein of form this Saturday courtesy of SUNSET BREEZE.

An ultra-progressive three-year-old handicapper last season, Sunset Breeze showed his liking for this track and trip when a neck second in September to the now 101-rated Double Or Bubble (gave 2lbs). He once again bumped into a well-handicapped rival at Doncaster afterwards when runner-up to Tranchee (now 102-rated) – met off level weights.

Those two performances strongly suggest that he still has some wriggle room in his current mark of 91 and having won on last season’s reappearance freshness should not be an issue. At his current odds of 16/1, he looks well worth keeping on the right side of.

TURN ON THE CHARM 9/24.00 Lingfield (Download The Novibet App Handicap)

James Fanshawe’s runners have been coming on considerably for their first runs of the season, therefore it was particularly noteworthy the performance that TURN ON THE CHARM produced when fourth at Nottingham last month.

That form has been franked on more than one occasion, and it also suggested that dropping back in distance should not pose any issues for Turn On The Charm.

William Buick is an interesting early booking for Turn On The Charm, with the rider currently 5-36 when riding for James Fanshawe (ten horses finishing 2nd or 3rd). That record can be enhanced at Lingfield this weekend – where Turn On THe Charm rates a confident selection at around the 9/2 mark.

Animal Instinct could pose the biggest threat to the selection, albeit it is a slight concern that he is yet to be seen on turf (or over a straight track).
