Karl Hedley has been firing in the winners in recent weeks and he returns with his best bets for the weekend racing
PYM (1.50 Ascot, Saturday)
Pym could well prove the answer in an exciting renewal of the Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase. The seven-year-old gelding has emerged victorious in his two most recent runs at Cheltenham and here at Ascot over course and distance.
The form of his most recent run at Cheltenham received a decent boost from Imperial Aura who was a good second to Simply The Betts in a more valuable race next time out. The form of his pevious win at Ascot is also working out with the likes of Neachells Bridge, Deise Aba and Erick Le Rouge all winning subsequently.
Nicky Henderson specifically targets this race with some of his most useful novices. In the last decade alone, the Seven Barrows handler has won the race three times with Burton Port, Master Of The Hall and Vyta Du Roc.
Nico De Boinville has been on board Pym for his two most recent wins and has built up a formidable partnership. The rider will be on a high after steering Altior to win at Newbury last weekend and he will be keen to follow up for the same connections with this improving type.
YALA ENKI (3.15 Haydock, Saturday)
Yala Enki raised a few eyebrows when he was switched from the yard of Venetia Williams to that of current trainer Paul Nicholls. He has already shown the benefit of the move following two decent runs in quick succession and the ten-year-old was dropped in class to reward connections with an impressive win over Rock The Kasbah and Valtor at Taunton last month.
He will have received a much-needed confidence boost following that win, having gone without success for a little over a year. Even though the ground went completely against him in this last year, he stayed on to be a remote fifth, but It’s worth remembering that he won this race two seasons ago beating the lovable Blaklion by nearly a distance.
With the ground looking as though it will be testing at best, this previous course-and-distance winner is more than capable of making his presence felt.
