HedleySearch For A Tipster winner Karl Hedley was in good form last week and he’s back this time around to hunt out the value for the weekend’s racing

DEFINITLY RED (1.30 Aintree, Saturday)

Definitly Red had to give weight away all around in the Charlie Hall when trying to retain his crown at Wetherby last month. Unfortunately, he wasn’t fully wound up for the challenge and became a little outpaced four from home. That effort should have freshened him up and Brian Ellison is likely to have left something to work on heading into this Grade 3 handicap.

Connections will be hoping the ground stays soft as the ten-year-old has plenty of winning form under similar conditions. He has won on two of his last three visits to this particular track and he specialises at this trip, having won five times from eight attempts at it. Danny Cook is likely to come in for the ride once again.

Definitly Red remains 4lb lower in the ratings than when recording his last success over this course and distance in the Many Clouds Chase last December. Having won at a higher level in the past, he has to command respect if taking his chance.

UN DE SCEAUX (3.00 Sandown, Saturday)

Un De Sceaux showed little sign that his talent was on the wane when last seen running away with the Boylesports Champion Chase at Punchestown in the spring. Having disputed the lead with Ordinary World for much of the race, his jumping held together nicely and when he was shaken up to go and win his race, he stayed on strongly to defeat the talented Min by around four lengths.

Before making his seasonal reappearance in this race last year, he had won at the first time of asking for the previous two years. One of those successes came in this particular race, so it only seems sensible that Willie Mullins has him entered for this. He has no Altior to contend with this time around, so there is every reason to believe that he could make a bold attempt to regain his crown.

He is clearly tricky to train as he only has three or four runs per season but this two-mile trip allows him to utilise his natural speed. He knows his way around this track well and he has to be high on any shortlist.
