bet365 Gold Cup Runners – Full 20 Declared as Kitty’s Light to Fend Off Mullins Quartet

The bet365 Gold Cup, the feature handicap on the final day of the British jumps season, has seen 28 runners confirmed at the five day stage. They are headlined by four entries for British champion trainer elect Willie Mullins, as he seeks to consolidate his position as the top handler this side of the Irish Sea this season.

Mullins’ contingent is headed by Minella Cocooner and Nick Rockett, third and seventh in the Irish Grand National at the start of the month. Both are novice chasers this season, so would be seeking to emulate Hewick, winner of this two years ago, in being victorious having not run over fences in a prior year.

We’llhavewan and Aime Desjy are Mullins’ other pair, the former having unseated early in the Scottish National at the weekend. The other potential Irish raider is Amirite, who narrowly missed out on a place in the Grand National field.

The remaining 22 belong to the hosts, with Christian Williams’ Kitty’s Light looking for back to back successes in the race. He was a gallant fifth in the Grand National and is 1lb lower just two weeks later to repeat his victory from a year ago, which came off a mark of 140.

Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls may have seen their chances of being Champion Trainer recede at the weekend, but both have significant entries in the shape of former Coral Gold Cup hero Le Milos and recent Ascot winner Threeunderthrufive respectively. Nicholls may also send out Enrilo and Flash Collonges in the race too.

Bet365 Gold Cup Odds

After winning this last year off a 5lb lower mark to complete a memorable spring hat-trick, Kitty’s Light is the clear favourite to defend his title. He is currently trading at a best price of 4/1 and is unlikely to be challenged as market leader once the race sets off on Saturday.

Le Milos and Threeunderthrufive are next in at 10/1, with Mullins’ leading challengers, Minella Cocooner and Nick Rockett, both at 14/1. Your Own Story for Scotland’s Lucinda Russell, also trades at a best-priced 14/1.
