It’s day two of the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday and Daryl Carter (@darylcarter7) has got his best bets through the card and his latest Cheltenham tips
SPORTING JOHN (1.30 Cheltenham) 1pt win 7/2
Irish banker Envoi Allen is short enough at the prices based on his Lawlor’s Of Naas victory, in which he wasn’t the strongest of finishers and this extra distance isn’t sure to suit.
Confirmed stayer, and former point-to-point winner Sporting John has plenty more to offer over this trip and he could spoil the party for the Irish. He took a big step forward at Ascot last time and will be strong at the finish.
BACK SPORTING JOHN AT 7/2 HERE
CHAMP (2.10 Cheltenham) 3pts win 7/2
It will take a leap of faith to back Champ after he fell at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day but he remains the most exciting staying chaser.
His form over fences rates stronger than his Irish counterparts, and the manner of his successes this season suggest he could be a future Gold Cup horse. He will need to be at his very best, but this is by far the most talented horse in the field!
STRATUM (2.50 Cheltenham) 1pt each-way 18/1
Last year’s Cesarewitch winner was rated 107 on the Flat and Stratum could have plenty more to come over hurdles still.
This step up in trip is very interesting considering how well he stayed on the Flat and with improvement likely to come at this trip, a mark of 145 could underestimate him.
EASYSLAND 4.10 Cheltenham 1pt win 11/4
With Tiger Roll appearing later on the scene than in recent years and with an underwhelming performance over hurdles, connections may just have one eye on a third Grand National tilt.
The youngster Easysland is now unbeaten in his last seven completed starts and is progressive enough to think he could give the favourite something to think about.
MICK PASTOR (4.50 Cheltenham) 1pt win 15/2
Mick Pastor’s Ludlow performance is still fresh in the memory and coupled with his French form suggests that a mark of 140 could well underestimate him.
Fitted with headgear and tounge-tie combination for the first time after a wind operation, there are reasons to think that he could pull out more and the suspicion is he could be a very good horse.
DARLING DAUGHTER (5.30 Cheltenham) 2pts e/w 20/1
This rates a strong fancy and Darling Daughter is improving rapidly.. Her form ties in with the favourite, Appreciate It, through Watergate Lady, which suggests she doesn’t have that much to find and I think her odds are staggering.
She will appreciate this stiff finish at Cheltenham and the strong pace and she is worth punting at a price here.
