Falmouth Stakes Odds – Market Favouring Fortuna for Group 1 Double

Coronation Stakes heroine Porta Fortuna heads the market as a clear favourite for the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes, the first top level contest of the week at Newmarket’s July meeting on Friday, 12th July. The race is run over 1m on the July Course, exclusive for fillies and mares.

Porta Fortuna overcame Opera Singer and her 1000 Guineas conqueror Elmalka to claim her Royal Ascot success and is a best price of 6/4 to become the sixth three-year-old to win the Falmouth Stakes in the last nine years. The younger generation is triply represented for this year’s renewal, with A Lilac Rolla challenging for second favouritism after finishing second in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

The other filly chasing the favourite in the betting is Running Lion, another Royal Ascot winner. She claimed the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at the Berkshire track and John & Thady Gosden, who won this last year with Nashwa, will be confident of a big run from their improving grey. She can be backed at 4/1, with A Lilac Rolla at 5/1.

Donnacha O’Brien will be confident that Porta Fortuna can deliver once again, but brother Joseph has a leading contender in opposition to him. Rogue Millennium has been placed at this level before and is at 15/2, as can the fellow Irish-trained Magical Sunset.

The British challenge outside of Running Lion is tightly bunched in the market. Jabaara has won at Listed level the last twice and looks a progressive type for Roger Varian, with Sirona boasting a similar profile for David Menuisier.
