GG tipster Kevin O'Malley has four bets on Saturday, running across four different meetings this afternoon. Check them out below...
Via Serendipity fluffed his lines a bit at Newmarket last time out behind Indeed, but the upshot is the handicapper nudged him down to a BHA mark of 95, the same rating from which he won this race last year.
Stuart Williams has his string in very good nick just now, saddling 6 winners and 6 placed efforts from 35 runners in the past two weeks and on the whole, Via Serendipity comes into the race in more or less the same form he did in 2018; taking speed figures and form into account.
He won quite nicely at 7/2 then and this isn’t an obviously more demanding renewal, so odds of 11/2 available at the moment look very fair about a horse with a pretty clear chance of winning. GB & Ire team captain Tadhg O'Shea won’t hinder his chances.
I have plenty of respect for the experience of Red Starlight and Muchly, but the one I’m willing to take a chance on is Ardiente, for trainer Ed Vaughan. This lightly-raced Australia filly created a good impression first time out at Kempton last November, displaying professionalism and a hint of class in her work to make up ground from behind and battle on to score by a cosy head.
Last time out at Newmarket, Ardiente caught the eye when staying on well for 3rd behind Whispering Beauty, who has won again since to give the form a boost. Ardiente was not knocked about by James Doyle, shaping as though the run would do her a world of good.
This is her second outing after a breathing operation and perhaps there is a good step forward in her this afternoon.
Another fillies’ race, another set of market leaders I’m keen to take on, for better or worse!
You can take Ananya’s recent Newmarket romp one of two ways. Perhaps her rivals went off way too quick and allowed her to pick up what pieces were left of the contest late in the day. Or, perhaps Peter Chapple-Hyam has a smart horse on his hands, who was just able to cope with the demands of a strongly run race much better than her rivals.
Whatever the case, she ran to an RPR of 84 there, meaning she has 12-14lb to improve just to get on terms with Ultra Violet, Light Blush and Dark Lady. This is of course a big ask, but Ananya recorded a Topspeed rating of 83 there too, which in terms of A to B speed, she is very much knocking on the door of Black Type winning ability. In fact, that figure is the best on show here.
Whether or not she can prove her class against better horses here remains to be seen, but the clock says she very much might be able to, a fact not quite reflected enough in early morning prices of around 12/1.
William Haggas won this race the past two years and Country looks an ideal candidate to make it a hat-trick, but I think and hope, Loch Ness Monster can give him a proper race of it here and hopefully bear him too.
Mick Appleby’s charge has experience on his side and was putting in strong late work over nine furlongs last time out, suggesting this step up to ten furlongs will prove to be advantageous to the horse. He comes out well on the speed figures and looks well handicapped off 89 here.
