Horses-to-FollowA three day Flat Racing bonanza kicks off on Thursday on the July course at Newmarket and below, we’ve pinpointed 10 horses we are really looking forward to seeing across the meeting…

BARBADOS - 1.50 Newmarket, Thursday

Should Aidan O'Brien’s 3yo take his chance in the opening Bahrain Trophy Stakes, he’ll go there with every chance. He’s only won one of his six starts to date, but his 2nd in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot was a career best run. Barbados is a handsome, well-bred, improving colt and faster ground around the July course can bring about further progression.

VISINARI - 2.25 Newmarket, Thursday

Mark Johnston’s juvenile was really impressive here on debut, nabbing the stands rail and making all to win comfortably first time out at 10/1, with 11/8 favourite Ottoman Court 3.5 lengths back in second. Even more notable was the ten lengths back to the rest. It’ll be intriguing to see how this fella goes in the July Stakes on Thursday and matches up against some Royal Ascot runners.

BEAT LE BON - 3.00 Newmarket, Thursday

Beat Le Bon is held in fond regard by trainer Richard Hannon Jr and having won his last two outings in good style, the 4yo is improving at just the right time. The bet365 Handicap at 3.00pm on Thursday will be no penalty kick, but Beat Le Bon will be the one they all have to beat if he turns out again here.

MASAR - 3.35 Newmarket, Thursday

The 2018 Investec Derby winner has a point to prove. Masar has some excuses in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot having slipped badly after coming out of the stalls, but he needs to perform here and prove that he can still be a middle distance force. Mirage Dancer and Baghdad are solid horses, but Charlie Appleby’s inmate should be beating them. But is he the horse he once was? We’ll soon find out.

FINAL SONG - 2.25 Newmarket, Friday

Saeed Bin Suroor’s 2yo filly really caught the eye staying on for 3rd behind Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary Stakes. She can reverse form with that horse and give the Albany winner, Daahyeh, a real race of it in the Duchess of Cambridge on Friday.

BEN VRACKIE - 3.00 Newmarket, Friday

This big, gorgeous son of Frankel was unlucky not to score at Royal Ascot when just failing to reel in Baghdad, but he certainly left the impression a bright future lay ahead. He will take a bit of stopping if goes for this £120,000 contest on Friday and looks like he could be a Cup horse in the making.

ONE MASTER - 3.35 Newmarket, Friday

The William Haggas barn is in outstanding form just now and the Newmarket handler can bag the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes with One Master, who ran a corker against the boys in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. She has a bright turn of foot, plenty of class and is exciting to watch. Any passing showers would increase her chances of glory.

Darley July Cup, 4.40pm at Newmarket!!

We have to finish this particular list with an intriguing trio of sprinters looking set to lock horns in the feature Group 1 race of the July Festival….

DREAM OF DREAMS

Dream Of Dreams is a handsome, experienced chestnut who seems to have been around a long time now. But he seems to be finding his feet as a top sprinter this season and he was somewhat unlucky not to beat Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge will seek to get his run for the line going sooner this time and he is a major player in the July Cup.

ADVERTISE

Martyn Meade’s charge returned to form in the Commonwealth Cup and looks nailed on to take his chance here, where he will rate as a top candidate for July Cup honours. The 3yo won the July Stakes at this meeting last year so we know he handles the course. We know he was a good juvenile, we also know he’s the best of the 3yo bunch, but can he handle open Group 1 company now? That’s the burning question.

CAPE BYRON

This Roger Varian trained 5yo won the Victoria Cup and improved again to land a big gamble in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot. Dipping into Group 1 company is a massive challenge but Cape Byron is developing into a serious sprinter and arrives here in the form of his life. It will be really interesting to see how these three very talented sprinters fare on Saturday in the big one.
