2025 Kim Muir Handicap Chase Entries – Amateurs’ Handicap Receives 69 Initial Hopefuls

69 entries have been made for the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup, one of only two races left for amateur jockeys during the Cheltenham Festival. The change of conditions for the National Hunt Chase has ensured that this 3m2f handicap fulfils an integral role in involving the Corinthian spirit of amateur riders during the event.

The race is yet another of the handicaps which JP McManus has enjoyed as an owner over the years, having had three winners since 2016. After Inothewayurthinkin proved Grade 1 quality last season, the likes of Hasthing, Johnnywho and Sa Majeste could all be runners who step up to the plate for him this time around, the first two trained by the O’Neills, the latter by Willie Mullins.

Mullins has famously never trained a winner of a Cheltenham Festival handicap chase, so Sa Majeste could carry a weight of expectation, especially as Iris Emery is the only other Closutton entry. Their number is dwarfed by those from Gavin Cromwell, who won this last year, and who could send out fancied runners Now Is The Hour and Mint Boy among his five entries. The latter requires one more run to qualify.

Other potential Irish raiders include the in-form Midnight Our Fred and Barry Connell’s Nine Graces, as the visitors attempt to win the race for the sixth time in seven years. The hosts could also have serious challengers in ultra stayer Mr Vango and the improving Herakles Westwood.

Punters should take heed of a few runners who may not qualify: both Search For Glory and Favori De Champdou may prove too high in the weights for Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown. Meanwhile, In d’Or has not raced the required number of times over fences to date and does not have any entries in time in order to get his requisite extra start.
