Lockinge Stakes Odds – Two Clear Favourites Among Spread Out Market

Six-time Group 1 winner Inspiral leads the market for the 2024 edition of the Lockinge Stakes, the top level 1m contest run at Newbury on Saturday. Open only to those aged four and upwards, John & Thady Gosden’s mare heads the betting at a best price of 15/8 to add a seventh Group 1 to an already glittering haul. She won her last three races of the previous season.

However, she is only narrowly favourite over star French raider Big Rock. His owners transferred him from Christopher Head’s yard, for whom he won the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day in dynamic fashion last term, to new trainer Maurizio Guarnieri, but the form he showed at Ascot looked something special. He is available at a best of 5/2.

That pair are dominant in the market as things stand, though both will be making their seasonal returns in the race unlike the next duo in, Charyn and Poker Face. Roger Varian’s grey has won both of his starts so far this season and is progressing quickly, though Poker Face was only narrowly beaten by him in their most recent match-up despite conceding 3lb. They are 7/1 and 8/1 at best odds respectively.

Last year’s 2000 Guineas third Royal Scotsman is next in at 14/1, with the remaining six confirmations all trading as considerable outsiders. A Group 2 winner on his final start at three, Flight Plan is at 25/1 with the veteran Real World, who was second in the race to Baaeed in 2022, at 33/1.

Audience, Dear My Friend and Witch Hunter are all currently 50/1 with best odds, while Hi Royal would be the 66/1 outsider if the race was run today.
