Entries have been made for the 2025 Mares’ Chase, set to be run as the third race on the card for the first time on Friday, 14th March. This ensures the Grade 2, which is the newest existing race at the Cheltenham Festival in terms of the date of its inaugural renewal, occurs before the Gold Cup having been run as the penultimate race of the day since its inception in 2021.
Within those 19 entries, JP McManus holds sway. Last year’s runner-up Dinoblue represents he and Willie Mullins, as she looks to go one better than a year ago, when second to Limerick Lace. The defending champion is also owned by McManus, but trained by Gavin Cromwell, as she looks to get back to winning ways.
McManus and Cromwell could also combine with the novice Bioluminescence, who was a gallant runner-up to Brown Advisory hope Dancing City last time out under a penalty. Another novice in Only By Night is a potential principle too, with Spindleberry and Shecouldbeanything other novices of consideration, trained by Mullins and Gordon Elliott respectively.
Allegorie De Vassy is among the more experienced possibles in the early entries, while prominent British contenders include easy recent Windsor heroine Panic Attack for Dan Skelton, and Listed winner Telepathique for Lucy Wadham.
