October is the month when the Flat season starts to draw to a close and jumps fans are getting excited about the months ahead. We’ve trawled the ante-post markets to pick out some value and big-priced punts for the weeks ahead.
HELLO YOUMZAIN (5/1 Qipco Champions Sprint Stakes, October 19)
This year’s Sprint Cup winner at Haydock has had only seven career runs and is clearly still improving. He is versatile as regards to ground, winning on firm and soft ground and he should reverse Royal Ascot placings with Advertise given he was unsuited by the way the Commonwealth Cup was run.
He should be backed until his progression shows signs of stopping.
SHINE SO BRIGHT (33/1 Qipco Champions Sprint Stakes, October 19)
While Hello Youmzain is a confident selection in this race, it’s hard to resist a small each-way bet on Shine So Bright as the suspicion remains that his style of running suggests he could be perfect for this task.
He likes to dominate and has found his stamina pushed to the limit over seven furlongs and a mile this season. However, he had the class to finish sixth in the 2000 Guineas and the drop to six furlongs looks tailor-made for him. He is massively overpriced at 33/1.
