Oisin Murphy has been sentenced after his charge for driving over the legal limit of alcohol. The top jockey has been fined £70,000 and is banned from driving for the next 20 months after he failed to provide a roadside sample after crashing his Mercedes into a tree on Sunday, 27th April.
Murphy appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after having ridden a winner on Wednesday, with the four-time champion jockey subsequently receiving his sentence.
The 29-year-old had previously pled guilty and was charged on June 17th with a drink driving offense, but had continued to ride in the interim, securing victories at Royal Ascot, as well as a double at Windsor the day after the crash.
