A hugely competitive field always line up for the Pertemps Final, which takes place on day three of the Cheltenham Festival on Thursday 13th March. 50 horses have been entered for the 2025 renewal and we take a look at those horses that could take their chance in the 3m contest here.
Gordon Elliott’s The Wallpark produced a fine performance to win at Cheltenham earlier in the season and the hugely progressive staying hurdler is well fancied for this contest, however, he’s more likely to head down the Graded route and he’s a potential each-way contender for the Stayers’ Hurdle later in the afternoon.
Donning the famous JP McManus silks of green and gold in the Pertemps could be Jeriko Du Reponet, who was highly touted as a novice hurdler earlier in his career, but he’s struggled to live up to the hype, however, would be a fascinating runner here for Nicky Henderson.
Gwennie May Boy was a surprise winner of the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock Park last weekend for Dan Skelton, but that seven-year-old could revert back to handicapping for this contest, while last year’s winner Monmiral could have another crack and look to emulate the likes of Buena Vista and Sire Du Berlais by winning back-to-back renewals for Paul Nicholls.
Irish-trained runners have had a decent record in this race in recent times with the likes of Mall Dini, Presenting Percy, Delta Work, Sire Du Berlais and most recently Good Time Jonny landing victory and Padraig Roche’s Win Some Lose Some could be one of those eye-catching runners making the trip across the Irish Sea.
James Owen’s One Big Bang beat Doddiethegreat in a qualifier at Haydock last weekend and that pair could take their chance in the line-up, while the likes of Henri The Second, Henry’s Friend, Feet Of A Dancer and Catch Him Derry all add depth to what will be a fascinating betting market to watch over the coming weeks.
