Ten runners are in contention for the 2025 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, the feature race on day two of Royal Ascot. The contest is one of the most sought after middle distance prizes and will take place on Wednesday, 18th June.
There was one supplementary entry into the race on Thursday, as See The Fire, a wide-margin winner of the Group 2 Middleton Stakes at York, joined the fray for Andrew Balding among a star-studded field. She is seeking a first top tier success in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. She would also be the only filly in the race if taking part.
Long-term market leader Los Angeles remains the principle target for the rest to aim at. Aidan O’Brien’s 2024 Irish Derby hero has been an admirable performer over the last two seasons, recently claiming his third Group 1 in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. O’Brien won this with Auguste Rodin a year ago and has kept 2023 St Leger hero Continuous in the race as well.
Champion Stakes winner Anmaat, who won that contest at 40/1 over course and distance in October, has been confirmed by Owen Burrows. The seven-year-old has improved with age despite fitness issues and will look to overturn recent Curragh running with Los Angeles.
There are two potential French runners in the field, firstly in Map Of Stars for Francis-Henri Graffard. He was narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp in April and will seek to improve upon the second and third-placed efforts of French runners in the 2024 edition. Facteur Cheval, a regular in top level contests over 1m, could step up in trip for Jerome Reynier.
The unexposed Ombudsman has a verdict over Map Of Stars from last season and could easily improve for his comeback run for John & Thady Gosden, while another dangerous Irish contender is White Birch, beaten in his Tattersalls Gold Cup defence, but having been endured a poor run from the back of the field.
Royal Champion won the Listed Wolferton Stakes over track and trip at Royal Ascot 2023, and he and Certain Lad make up the field for Britain.
