”..."Sun Power is a very smart colt who has been showing all the right signs"...”

THE horses have been running well and we had two nice winners at Lingfield with War Glory and Alhakmah doing the business for Al Shaqab Racing and Mohammed Al Shahi. War Glory clocked his first win on turf which was great and I’m sure there’s a big handicap to be won with him over the summer. Alhakmah is a filly we’ve always really liked and I think the drop back to six furlongs really helped. She’s improving with every run and we’ll have to look at stepping up a level now.

Billesdon Brook ran a good race in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket, but she would have really needed it so I’d expect her to be much sharper next time. To be honest, she didn’t look to handle the dip that well, which may sound silly after winning the Guineas last year, but the ground was much quicker and she may have just been feeling it. I’ve put her in the Lockinge this morning and she might well take her chance.

Threat was very impressive in the Maiden and he would be our Coventry horse at the moment. He’s been given an entry in the Olympic Glory Stakes at Newbury this weekend, along with Temple Of Heaven, and it’s almost certain that one of them will run but I’m yet to decide which one!

King Of Change finishing second in the 2000 Guineas was a surprise to many, but not necessarily me, as he’s always shown plenty at home and we may have a look at the Irish Guineas and quite possibly the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot after that.

Yafta (Jim Crowley)

He ran a great race in the Abernant and will definitely have come on for it. I don’t think the draw will have much effect on a field this size and there is no more rain forecast, so conditions should be ideal. It’s a good race, but he’s working well and is extremely consistent so I’d be very hopeful of a bold show.

Magical Wish (Sean Levey)

I’m sure he would have won by further at Lingfield last time, if it wasn’t for trying to bite a chunk out of the second horse in the last furlong, so I hope he doesn’t try those antics again! He’s up to a mark of 91, so needs to improve, but he’s progressing into a talented animal and will like the good ground. It’s a big field so we’ll need plenty of luck but I wouldn’t put you off him.

Sun Power (Silvestre De Sousa)

He’s a very smart colt by our Guineas winner Night Of Thunder, who has been showing all the right signs at home. York Novices are always good races and he’s up against a couple of winners and some well bred types, but our runner has a lot of ability and this looks to be a very good starting point.

I’ll be writing my blogs every day of York this week so please check back here for my thoughts on our runners each day.
