Royal Ascot 2020 Day 4 Trends – Get up to £30 in free bets

Horse racing Royal Ascot

It’s day 4 of Royal Ascot 2020 and our daily trends column is again pinpointing the likely types to excel at the meeting. Check out the tips and CLAIM UP TO £30 IN FREE BETS .

PALACE OF HOLYROODHOUSE HANDICAP (1.15 Ascot)

New Race

ALBANY STAKES (1.50 Ascot)

14/17 won by either February or March foal

14/14 came from double-figure draw

12/12 had won at least once

12/12 drawn in stall 12 or higher

11/12 had won their previous race

9/12 had won over six furlongs

6/12 from top three in the betting

Previous winners and early foals come to the fore here and there are plenty of contenders who fit the brief. But if we focus on those drawn in double figures, then the field is narrowed to Dandalla, Follow Suit, Undertake and Valpolicella. Dandalla has yet to win over 6f so we’ll plump with Clive Cox’s Follow Suit, who beat the boys when winning on her debut

NORFOLK STAKES (2.25 Royal Ascot)

17/17 had at least one previous run

16/17 had been previous winners over 5f

14/17 won their last race

13/17 foaled in March or April

10/17 returned 6/1 or shorter

10/14 came from stalls 7-12 inclusive

Time to again concentrate on the previous winners, early foals and those towards the head of the market. The one who stands out is EYE OF HEAVEN for trainer Mark Johnston. Johnston has made no secret of his admiration of this juvenile and Eye Of Heaven should be able to strike here.

HARDWICKE STAKES (3.00 Royal Ascot)

17/17 Had previously won a Group 2 or Group 3 race

15/17 Had a previous win over 1m4f

12/17 trained by Aidan O’Brien, Mark Johnston or Sir Michael Stoute

11/17 aged 4 (including last nine winners)

11/17 had run at Ascot before

11/17 returned 9/2 or shorter

Not many in this field fit the bill, with only Anthony Van Dyck and Spanish Mission aged 4, previous winners over 1m4f and having already been successful at Group level. Given that shorter prices run well and Aidan O’Brien does well in the race, it’s hard to look past ANTHONY VAN DYCK

COMMONWEALTH CUP (3.35 Royal Ascot)

5/5 won over 6f before

5/5 drawn 8 or lower

⅘ had won 3+ times before

⅘ had run at Ascot before

⅘ rated 117 or higher

A relatively new race with just five previous runnings to assess. With no runner having reached the usual ratings standard and the truncated season preventing some horses from having a prep run, it’s difficult to narrow it down. But Golden Horde has run at the track before, is rated 114, just below the standard usually needed and has won at the distance.

QUEEN’S VASE (4.10 Royal Ascot)

12/17 at least 2 previous career wins

11/17 had run over at least 1m4f before

13/14 came from a single-figure stall

11/13 from top three in the betting

9/12 rated 99 or higher

A difficult race from a trends perspective as the shortened season has meant many have not had their chance to prove themselves over at least 1m4f. One who has is Berkshire Rocco, who is rated 104 and is well fancied in the market.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH STAKES (4.40 Royal Ascot)

17/17 Aged four or five

16/17 had won over at least 1m2f

16/17 at least two previous career wins

10/17 had won over 1m4f previously

10/17 trained by Hughie Morrison, Mark Johnston or Sir Michael Stoute

13/14 came from a double-figure stall

8/17 had run at Ascot before

So with plenty of likely types here, the trends have zoned in on GETCHAGETCHAGETCHA, who has won twice including over 1m4f. He’s the right age, has course experience and comes out of stall 11.
