Highland ChiefRoyal Ascot 2021 begins next week, and in anticipation of a fine week's racing top tipster Andrew Mount has identified five outsiders to consider at the meeting. Check out his thoughts below, which come alongside an exclusive SBK offer, which provides new customers with a risk-free £20 bet.

Champers Elysees – Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

CHAMPERS ELYSEES 8/1 was only fourth of six when favourite for the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh last month but the track was massively favouring early pace and her patient tactics were at a huge disadvantage. It was a similar story when fourth at the same venue on her reappearance and an end-to-end gallop on quicker going will see her in a much better light.

Arecibo – King’s Stand Stakes

ARECIBO 25/1 looks to have improved for the switch to sprint expert Robert Cowell, landing Newmarket handicaps on either side of his unlucky sixth in the Palace House Stakes. He goes especially well in small fields – his wins have come in fields of 5, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11 runners – and confidence will increase if the race cuts up like it did last year when only 11 went to post.

Repartee – Wokingham

REPARTEE 33/1 represents last year’s winning trainer Kevin Ryan and the five-year-old looks very interesting off a mark of 98 in the Wokingham. He was only half a length behind current favourite Kings Lynn in a huge field at Doncaster in September 2019 when conceding 7lb to that rival and will be receiving weight this time.

He’s only scored once since that run – landing a small-field Listed contest at Windsor on his reappearance in June of last year – but clearly had problems afterwards, failing to beat a rival in two starts the following month. We didn’t see him again until Wolverhampton in March of this year where he finished a respectable fifth in first-time cheekpieces after a gelding operation.

His second run this term was nothing special - he finished in midfield in a 7f handicap at Newmarket - but has undergone wind surgery since, a positive punting angle when it comes to the Kevin Ryan yard. Quick ground will be ideal – his four runs below 7f on good to firm going have seem him record figures of 1321 (2-4), with the third place in Group 2 company – and this best-fresh individual has been rested for almost ten weeks.

Beat Le Bon – Royal Hunt Cup

Richard Hannon’s BEAT LE BON 28/1 was a huge eyecatcher at Newmarket on his comeback this term, staying on strongly from the rear into an 11/1 fifth of 12 against the draw/pace bias. The four who beat him all raced up with the pace and were drawn high. That prompted me to bet him in a four-runner Listed race at Leicester next time but he made the running which simply didn’t suit, trailing home six lengths behind the winner in third.

He reverted to hold-up tactics at Doncaster last time, going down by a neck at 9-1 and will be suited by the big field and likely strong pace in the Royal Hunt Cup. He hasn’t had many opportunities in big-field handicaps on a sound surface but did win in a field of 20 runners at Glorious Goodwood in 2019 and is 1lb lower here.

Highland Chief – Hardwicke Stakes

HIGHLAND CHIEF 33/1 has rocked up at this meeting twice previously, landing the Golden Gates Handicap at 20-1 last year and finishing third to Pinatubo at 14-1 in the 2019 Chesham. He was only fifth of six in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last time but has fallen in short in all three forays into Group 1 company and is best judged on his figures below that level of 1361223 (2-7).
