ROYAL ASCOT DAY 3 – Six Lively Outsiders on Thursday

Bet MISTY GREY 16/1 @ Coral

A speedy Dark Angel colt, this lad will stay this 5f trip really well, much like his Queen Mary winning stablemate Raffle Prize. Misty Grey ran out of puff late on at Epsom last time out in the Woodcote, but displayed a bright zest for racing for much of the race, stretching clear of his rivals entering the straight. Better timed fractions here could see him go very well indeed.

Bet GREAT SCOT 11/1 @ Coral

Tom Dascombe’s inmate has stacks of classy form and quality to his name and could well be crying out for this step up in trip. The son of Requinto handles soft ground very well, which will be important today. Jim Crowley hit form at Ascot on Wednesday and rates a worthy substitute to Richard Kingscote, who curiously enough maintains his partnership with Arthur Kitt, who has more to find than his stablemate on form.

Bet FANNY LOGAN 18/1 @ Coral

A steadily progressive daughter of Sea The Stars, Fanny Logan showed plenty of promised in the Cheshire Oaks last time out. She was ear-marked for a tilt at the Italian Oaks, so the fact John Gosden keeps her on UK shores for a tilt at this, perhaps suggests that she is showing plenty of good signals in her homework. Should handle the ground and Andrea Atzeni is a top pilot.

Bet CAPRI 16/1 @ Coral

This former St Leger winning grey has a bit of soul-searching to do to be considered a highly likely winner, but on his day he probably has the best form in the field. Seems to be steadily coming back to something like encouraging form and he could surprise a few today. The ground, unlike others, will be absolutely fine for him. It is just a case of where he’s at in terms of overall well-being and fitness. If on-song, Capri is a significant threat to all.

Bet DARK VISION 20/1 @ Coral

Dark Vision is yet to win in four starts since landing the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but he was staying on nicely in 4th behind King Of Comedy last time out and could just be coming back to peak form. No hiding places from his handicap mark of 105 but he’s a very good horse on his day and looks a shade over-priced at 20/1.

Bet ALMANIA 14/1 @ Coral

This Sir Michael Stoute trained 3yo was readily left 11 lengths behind Telecaster in the Dante Stakes, but the run represented another step forward from his previous two starts on RPRs and the Australia colt looks interesting here from a mark of 95. That was his first outing since winning a race over 7f on good to soft ground at Sandown last August and he is entitled to come on a bundle for it.
