Our regular column is always on the hunt for big-priced winners and horses who have slipped under the radar. we’ve again highlighted some runners in Britain and Ireland who could outrun their odds
Trainer Roger Charlton is always the man to follow at the end of summer and operates with a 22 per cent strike-rate at this time of year. A £1 on each of his horses in the two-week period either side of today’s date for the last five seasons would have resulted in a profit of £56.10, which makes two-year-old Ivadream of some interest here. Whatever happens, Charlton is a man to keep on your side this week.
This horse has looked extremely limited so far in his career and if we were concentrating solely on form, he would definitely be one to avoid. However, trainer Tony Carroll has a 27 per cent strike-rate (his total success-rate is just 11 per cent) with horses wearing first-time blinkers in the last two years and he uses that equipment on Willa’s Wish here.
Mick Channon has an overall strike-rate of 13 per cent with his runners in the last two years, but that stat leaps to 44 per cent when taking into account his horses racing in first-time cheekpieces. Channon will be hoping that record can be improved upon by Kentucky Hardboot.
