This column has studied the cards from Tramore, Fontwell, Uttoxeter And Wolverhampton on the hunt for more success. We’re looking to find those runners in Britain and Ireland who could well outrun their odds.
Alan King has a tremendous strike-rate of 23 per cent with his newcomers over hurdles but that rises to 46 per cent when we consider his runners competing for the first time over hurdles at Fontwell. That suggests Peckinpah could well be primed to run a big races on his debut over obstacles.
Trainer Henry Oliver has a 21 per cent strike-rate with his horses having their first run in handicap hurdles and you would have made a profit of £14.38 if you’d put £1 on all his qualifying runners in the last five seasons. Oliver is also in good form with two of his last four horses winning, so Sastruga could run well
Nicky Henderson does not run too many novice hurdlers at Fontwell but he has a 50 per cent strike-rate with those he does. Crystal Gazing may have a bit to find but Henderson’s record at the track gives cause for optimism.
