This column advised backing 40/1 Chelmsford winner Last Date recently and it’s back again as we go on the hunt for big-priced winners and horses who have slipped under the radar. Here are those runners who could outrun their odds in Britain and Ireland today
Josephine Gordon’s star may have fallen recently but she is an extremely capable jockey and has a 50 per cent strike-rate when riding for trainer Shaun Keightley at Chelmsford. The pair team up with Waterproof, who showed improvement last time in cheekpieces.
Sir Mark Prescott has a decent strike-rate in the last two years of 17 per cent but that rises to 32 per cent when only taking his runners in first-time cheekpieces in that period. Prescott has reached for those aids on Positive Light this afternoon
We’re basing this on Noel Meade’s decent record in this 2m6f chase at Galway. Meade has had only two runners in this contest in previous years and both have won. The two horses who have won this for Meade are Monksland, who went on to run a couple of decent races over fences at Graded level, and Genieinabotttle who went on to finishish placed in the Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown.
