Our regular column is back after a short break and is again on the hunt for big-priced winners who may have slipped under the radar. Here are those runners in Britain and Ireland who could outrun their odds
This is the time of year when trainer Saeed Bin Suroor is always the man to follow. He operates at a 28 per cent strike-rate and turned a level-stakes profit of £22 to a £1 stake with his runners in the two-week period either side of today’s date for the last four years. Bin Suroor has just Asoof running today and good things can be expected on her return from a break.
Trainer Clive Cox has an overall strike-rate of 11 per cent, but that nearly doubles to 20 per cent when focusing solely on his runners competing for the first time after a gelding operation. That suggests Cox knows the ideal type to undergo that surgical procedure and Pitchcombe had previously shown signs of ability, which bodes well for his return at Kempton
This horse tends to come alive at this time of year and has won in this seven-day period in 2013, 2016 and 2017, while he finished a close second in a hot class 3 Doncaster handicap on the 13th September last year. With that in mind, he could look a good each-way bet at around 10/1 now he is contesting a class 5 handicap at Carlisle, where he has won twice.
