There’s an eight race card on the all-weather at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, with some competitive action to get stuck into, all sponsored by BetUK & BetMGM.
GG editor Steve Chambers runs through the entire card and has a selection for each race on what should be a cracking day’s racing in the North East.

1.20pm – Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap (Class 3)
A former winner of the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster back in 2021, RHYTHMIC INTENT has struggled to reach those dizzy heights in recent times, but he’s been slipping down the handicap and could well take the opener at Newcastle here. The Stuart Williams-trained seven-year-old was last seen finishing sixth at Wolverhampton, but has dropped another 2lbs by the handicapper and a mark of 85 (10lbs lower than last winning mark) looks feasible, if he can recapture some old form.
1.59pm – Boost Your Acca At BetMGM EBF Novice Stakes (Class 5)
Two fascinating newcomers will take their chance here in the shape of John & Thady Gosden’s HIGH ORDER and Karl Burke’s High Order and the two sons of Frankel could become some nice middle distance horses next year. The marker should aid here, but High Order is a 50/1 shot for the Derby, so if he is to be thought of as a genuine Classic contender then he should land the prize here.
2.34pm – Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap (Class 4)
Second over a mile at Newcastle last time out, Ruth Carr’s SWISS ACE will be looking to go one better in this 7f contest and having been dropped 1lb by the handicapper the five-year-old stands a great chance. The Kingman gelding has had a break since that run in June, so he should be fresh for this competitive-looking contest, and he can strike gold and bag a first win in nine months.
3.09pm – BetUK. Home Of The Acca-Fenwa Handicap (Class 2)
A classy sprint handicapper at his best, Kevin Ryan’s BIELSA can hit the back of the net again in the 3:09pm contest. A former winner of the Ayr Gold Cup, the eight-year-old is now rated 1lb lower than that Ayr victory back in 2021 and he showed when finishing second here last month that he’s in decent form and can return to winning ways in this contest.
3.44pm – Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Nursery (Class 5)
George Boughey’s BULLDOG DRUMMOND failed to figure when dropped to five furlongs last time out when sixth at Wolverhampton, but the step back up to six furlongs here should see him produce a better performance. Runner-up on his two previous starts over the minimum trip, the son of Aclaim can break his maiden tag at the tenth time of asking in what is a trappy nursery event for punters to get stuck into in the middle of the card.
4.15pm – Boost Your Acca-Fenwa With BetUK Handicap (Div 1) (Class 6)
Iain Jardine’s WEE FAT MAC was a winner at Wolverhampton just six days ago and the four-year-old is bidding for a quickfire double and is one to beat in the 4:15pm at Newcastle. He will have to deal with a 5lbs penalty for that and will have the burden of top weight in this 5f contest, but he shaped like there could easily be another quick win in him before the handicapper reassesses and this looks a golden opportunity.

Fri 15 Dec 20234.45pm – Boost Your Acca-Fenwa With BetUK Handicap (Div 2) (Class 6)
Both Rory and High Opinion come in to this event on the back of a win and are entitled to sit at the forefront of punter’s minds, but one that could run well at a decent price is Stella Barclay’s GLORIOUS RIO. The six-year-old was a winner off a mark of 70 last season, but has struggled to deliver the goods since then and lines up here off 58. Unable to figure over six furlongs last time out, he will relish the drop back to five here and if he can find a clear path in the closing stages of the race then he could well bag a place at least.
5.15pm – BetMGM: It’s Showtime ‘Hands And Heels’ Apprentice Handicap (Class 5)
Gemma Tutty’s ENOLA GREY has been expensive to follow in recent times as the hugely consistent performer has racked up five second placed finishes from her last six starts, but she can finally land that elusive win in the final race on the card. Second at Southwell last time out, she’s been kept on a mark of 67, which certainly looks winnable off of and against some out of form rivals here she can finally get her time in the limelight.
