Through-The-Card Tips for Southwell’s AW Card On Tuesday 12th December

There’s a competitive looking card on the all-weather at Southwell on Tuesday, with eight races to get stuck into, all sponsored by BetUK & BetMGM.

GG editor Tom Aldridge runs through the full card, giving his selections for all eight races on the card, including a confident pick in the opener to get started.

5.00pm – Stay Golden With BetMGM Safer Gambling Nursery Handicap (Class 6)

I’m confident we can get off to a good start with LIKEASHADOW in the opener. Having won two of his last three races (all on the AW at Newcastle), he was only beaten just over a length off of this mark last time out, and the winner of that has since franked the form by going in again just four days later off a 6lb higher mark. Top jockey Oisin Murphy has been booked for the ride, and I think he looks the one to beat here.

I’m hoping Oisin Murphy has a good day at Southwell, as I’m also backing his ride in the second – SIR LES PATTERSON. Harry Eustace’s 2YO drops in class and trip here, having gone well on his debut run over a mile before tiring in the final stages. The drop in trip looks a wise move and with that experience under his belt, he can shed his maiden tag at the second time of asking. There’s plenty of unknown sorts in here making their debut, with Karl Burke’s First Alliance looking the pick of the newcomers, but I’d sooner side with the slightly more experience Sir Les Patterson.

Another race featuring plenty of horses making their debuts, and it looks like the trio to focus on are Midnight’s Dream, Night Raider and DANIELLE, and it’s the latter I’m siding with. Closely related to Group 1 winner Courage Mon Ami, who also incidentally won on his debut on the all-weather, she looks like she could be an exciting recruit for team Gosden. The yard is in red-hot form of late, operating at a 36% strike-rate over the past two weeks, and Danielle can hopefully get off to a winning start to further enhance their excellent recent form.

6.30pm – Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap (Class 5)

There’s every chance that Bankrupt could still be improving and land the five-timer here, but he’s now on a 16lb higher mark since that first AW win back in early October and I think he could be worth taking on. The one I’ve come down on is Tim Easterby’s SNASH, who has an excellent 11710 (3-5) record on the all-weather, and despite a poor effort last time out I think he looks an excellent option in here. His win at Newcastle at the end of October was impressive and he’s only 2lb higher here, so I think he looks the pick of the bunch to take on the red-hot Bankrupt with.

7.00pm – Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Fillies’ Handicap (Class 3)

The feature race on the card can go the way of ROARIN’ SUCCESS, who did well to finish third last time out, despite having her path blocked at a crucial point. She stayed on strongly that day, going past Wild Side with minimal fuss in the dying stages, so I don’t see that rival being able to reverse that form over this slightly longer trip. Roarin’ Success has already won over this trip previously, so the step up to a mile won’t be an issue for her and if anything, I think it will see her to better effect. She should prove tough to beat.

7.30pm – BetUK. Home Of The Acca-Fenwa Handicap (Class 3)

This race looks wide open, but the one I want to side with is LORD RIDDIFORD, who has gone close in his last two AW races and remains on the same mark here. He finished just over a length behind Bergerac at Newcastle last month, but is 5lb better off with that rival, which should be more than enough to see that form reversed here. Last time out he chased home the short odds favourite Clearpoint at Wolverhampton, where he did comfortably best of those to be held up in the real throughout the race. I will be shocked if he doesn’t finish in the top three here.

8.00pm – BetUK. It’s Where The UK Bets Handicap (Class 6)

I really like the chances of KISS MY FACE in this, especially after being narrowly touched off over C&D a couple of weeks back. He’s been raised 1lb for that effort but his record at Southwell is enough to convince me he looks a good thing. In four runs at Southwell, he’s won twice and finished runner-up in the other two, so the fact he’s available at what I consider an E/W price is a no brainer for me. He had Prince Abu well behind on that run last time out, and that one actually won this race last year, so that’s a further positive to his chances. I cannot see him finishing out of the top three in this, with plenty of question marks over his rivals.

8.30pm – Boost Your Acca-Fenwa With BetUK Handicap (Class 5)

The final race can go the way of Charlie Johnston with BOHEMIAN BREEZE, who has won two of his last three and still looks ahead of the handicapper. His win last time out was in a better race than this and he’s only been raised 2lb for it, which seems lenient considering he did it fairly comfortably. He drops down to class 5 company here and with Oisin Murphy booked for the ride, he’s a confident bet and I can’t see any of his rivals causing him too much trouble.
