Leg 1: 1.25pm

Leg 1 Selections: (2) Ancient Wisdom & (3) Arabic Legend

We keep it safe with the first selections, with the top two in the market at the time of writing taken to give us safe passage to the next race.

Ancient Wisdom has already proved himself a high quality colt, making the perfect start to life, winning on debut before following up in facile fashion in a novice. He ran with plenty of credit in a listed race last time out, the form of which has been franked in no uncertain terms by Rosalion and Al Musmak. He looks set to take another step forward today.

Arabic Legend is a ‘saver’ in this contest, on the off chance that Ancient Wisdom may blow out. He’s another who has proved above average, winning on debut before chasing home another well touted Godolphin runner Arabian Crown last time. Should the favourite falter he’ll need no second invite to strike.

Leg 2: 2.00pm

Leg 2 Selections: (3) City Of Troy

A horse with a huge reputation and with plans for the Breeders’ Cup now shelved, he can take the Dewhurst and enhance his profile no end. Already a key player in ante post markets for the Derby, he trounced some useful rivals in the Superlative Stakes and couldn’t have looked any more impressive in doing so. He breezed through that race and put them all to the sword in breathtaking fashion, if he can simply reproduce that, foregoing any improvement, he should prove far too good.

Leg 3: 2.40pm

Leg 3 Selections: (8) Pied Piper & (20) Temporize

The booking of Ryan Moore is sure to take the eye out for most punters and while there’s no secrets from the market now, he’s certainly worth of plenty of respect. He returned with a low key effort in Ireland but that will no doubt have simply been a pipe opener with this contest in mind. Gordon Elliott is sure to have him tee’d up for this and the forecast rain should hold no fears for him having won on Heavy in the past.

Temporize is another eye-catcher and another who won’t mind any rain. He was a very well backed favourite when winning well at Goodwood in very testing conditions, over 2m4f. He showed an abundance of stamina that day and that’ll serve him well today off a lovely low racing weight.

Leg 4: 3.15pm

Leg 4 Selections: (1) Arabian Crown

Previously discussed with form-lines that tie into the first leg of our Placepot and looks a colt on the improve with a big future. He was a little rough around the edges on debut but has been much more professional since, landing the Stonehenge Stakes in taking fashion last time, belying some market weakness in the process. He can take this on his way to some bigger assignments next season.

Leg 5: 3.50pm

Leg 5 Selections: (6) Knight

Hasn’t had the rub of the green this season, finishing closely behind smart horses like Angel Bleu and within a neck of Chindit latest, with the Hannon inmate providing a solid yardstick. There’s probably nothing of the ilk of the two aforementioned runners in here today and it’s very hard to see him out of the shake-up, especially with his aptitude for soft ground. Spirit Dancer arrives in the form of his life but has to prove his liking for this ground while Dubai Future returns off a break.

Leg 6: 4.25PM

Leg 6 Selections: (4) The Camden Colt (12) Fair Angellica

The Camden Colt showed plenty of improvement for the step up the mile last time out, just getting worn down in the dying strides by Stormy Waves, who could in time prove a cut above a mark in the 80s for Godolphin. That was a huge step in the right direction and while soft ground would pose a question he could be a tough nut to crack from the front on this drop back in trip.

Richard Hughes’ debut runners invariably come on leaps and bounds for the experience so when one wins first time up it can be a pointer to an above average recruit and that looks to be the case with Fair Angellica. A perfect two from two in her career, both of those wins have come on the all-weather but as a result her mark hasn’t been exaggerated and she could prove better than this on handicap debut. The switch to turf poses a question mark but she’s too hard to ignore for place purposes in here.
