The Troytown Handicap Chase is one of the biggest handicaps in the early stages of the Irish jumps season, and 25 runners remain as potential participants for the 3m contest on Sunday, 17th November. Last year, Gordon Elliott was responsible for 14 of the 20 runners, and currently holds just under half of this year’s confirmations with 12 of the 25 being under his care.
They include four of the top five in the weights according to ratings, with three of those owned by Bective Stud. At the head of them is Zanahiyr, who is rapidly becoming a standing order in such races having been just below the top grade in his novice chasing campaign. The seven-year-old had made the frame in the Champion Hurdle in the past.
The other Bective duo are Grade 2 winner American Mike and former National Hunt Chase runner-up Chemical Energy. Multiple Graded winner Favori De Champdou is the fourth of Elliott’s top-weighted ones for owners Gigginstown, while the only horse to interrupt the Elliott monopoly is Churchstonewarrior, another to have won a Grade 2 over fences in the past.
Cullentra also confirmed luminaries such as Gevrey and The Goffer, while other noteworthy entries include Life In The Park for Henry De Bromhead and Panda Boy for Martin Brassil, a horse who was well fancied for the 2024 Grand National.
Perceval Legallois, for Gavin Cromwell and JP McManus, is another staying handicap regular in the field, with Cromwell also holding three more chances courtesy of Haydock Grand National Trial winner Yeah Man, the consistent Ask Anything and Tyre Kicker, who is the lowest-rated runner in the line-up.
