Dan Skelton reports talented novice chaser Maire Banrigh to be in a stable condition at the Newmarket Equine Hospital after sustaining a leg injury at the Cheltenham Festival.
The eight-year-old mare, who is part-owned by John Hales, suffered an injury to her hock after falling at the fourth last in the Arkle Trophy, which was her first defeat over fences.
Although unsure what the future holds for Maire Banrigh regarding her racing career, Skelton is pleased with her progress since meeting with the setback.
He said: “Maire Banrigh is still at the Newmarket Equine Hospital, but the vets there are happy with her.
“It is a long road to recovery and as regards to her racing career, we will sit quietly on that for the time being as it is still early days.
“The great thing is that she is all right and that is the most important thing.”
