The nine-year-old was winning for the first time since taking the bet365 Gold Cup Chase at Sandown in April, 2016, clocking a strong time in the process. The race is already beginning to work out nicely with runner-up Traffic Fluide scoring bravely in a good handicap at Ascot and, although the assessor has wreaked some revenge, this race should set up nicely for the selection.
A HARE BREATH (Cheltenham, 1.50) has won twice off long breaks so fitness is unlikely to be an issue on Friday. He also relishes a decent surface and enjoys Cheltenham, so makes plenty of appeal on this comeback after a 209-day break.
The hope is that there could be more to come from him over fences with conditions to suit and, if his figures over hurdles can be translated to the larger obstacles in this race, then he has the class to shine.
The six-year-old looks to have been cleverly campaigned and is today dropped into a hurdle race off the same mark.
