Andrew-Mount-Trend HorsesOur top tipster has a huge number of stats at his disposal and has highlighted the horses it should pay to follow on Day 3 of the Ebor Festival. There’s also an evening fancy at Salisbury.

James Given’s progressive four-year-old appreciated the strong pace set by Genetics when scoring in first-time cheekpieces at Ascot last time and with that rival and several other pace angles in opposition he should have the strong pace that suits in the 1m4f Sky Bet Handicap (1.55). He ran well over course and distance in May, finishing sixth of 18 at 33-1 and horses from his age group have won seven of the last ten renewals.

Battaash, unplaced at short odds in the last two renewals of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (3.35) on the back of impressive Goodwood wins, could be vulnerable for a third time. Mabs Cross, beaten by a nose at 14-1 when tipped in this column last year, is the obvious each-way alternative but in a race that has thrown up its share of shock winners (100-1, 40-1, 40-1 and 20-1 in the past ten years) I’m going to take a chance on COPPER KNIGHT. Tim Easterby’s course expert was only seventh behind Battaash at Goodwood but the undulating track wouldn’t have suited – his turf wins have all come on dead flat courses (Chester, Nottingham and York) – and he was poorly drawn towards the stands’ side. His full record here reads 106001131 (4-9) and he’s the joint-third fastest horse in the line-up according to Raceform.

VICTORIANO (7.50 Salibsury)

There are no stalls for the 1m6f races at Salisbury and the flag starts give front-runners an edge, as they can jump off smartly and gain a few lengths on their more patiently-ridden rivals. These tactics didn't quite work for VICTORIANO over course and distance last time but it was still a fine effort to run a close third in a very fast time behind Sir Mark Prescott's Land Of Oz who has won again since. He can go two places better in the Venture Security Handicap (7.50).
