HUNDON (2.05 Lingfield, 1pt each-way 14/1)

HUNDON was only eighth of 12 in another 6f handicap here on January 5th but he raced on the inside rail - not the place to be that day – and didn’t get the clearest of runs. The other two runners who stayed on the inside finished ninth (3-1 favourite) and tenth in a race dominated by those who came late and wide.

It was a different story here yesterday, with the inside looking favoured, and Hundon might be able to build on that handicap debut. Robyn Brisland traditionally does well on the all-weather as soon as the new year comes around, and had we bet all his three and four-year-olds on synthetics from January to May we would have own 24 of our 128 bets and made a profit of £118.58 to a £1 level stake at SP.

William Carson, who shows a profit when riding for the yard, takes over in the saddles.

FIZZY FEET (2.35 Lingfield, 1pt win 12/1)

12 of FIZZY FEET’s 22 all-weather runs have taken lace at Wolverhampton where the filly has won twice but she has a superior strike-rate here at Lingfield, recording form figures of 41214110 (4-8), improving to 1111 (4-4) in fields of seven or fewer runners. There’s not a huge amount between the five runners here and she doesn’t deserve to be as big as 12-1.

KRAZY PAVING (4.45 Chelmsford, 2pts win 10/3)

KRAZY PAVING could have been better drawn but this is his time of year and he’s worth a bet. He’s hopeless in the April to December period, failing to score from 23 starts, but has won seven from 19 in the first three months of year. His record over 6f in January to March reads 22121671234411113 (7-17) for a profit of £33.38 to a £1 level stake at SP. Last year, he bounced back to form with a course and distance win on his first start of the new year and is 2lb lower this time around.

STARCEWSKI (7.45 Chelmsford, 2pts win 7/4)

STARCEWSKI caught the eye when a 28-1 eighth of ten in a 9.4f handicap at Wolverhampton on December 27th, his first run for 16 months. Held up off a steady pace that day, he could never get involved in a race dominated by prominent types (the winner and second were described as ‘soon led’ and ‘close up’).

The horses who were ridden more patiently and finished third through sixth – Athmad, Arij, Precision Storm and Amayasant - all ran well next time, recording figures of 1st, 2nd by a neck, 2nd by 1L (to the horse in third place, Athmad) and 1st. Starcewski was very weak in the betting after the break and looks very interesting now returned to Chelmsford and a more suitable trip (his latest win came over 1m6f here).
