BARDENSTOWN LAD – (3.05 Cheltenham, 2pts win - 11/2)

BARDENSTOWN LAD impressed me when bolting up in a Tipperary bumper on his Rules debut in the spring as raced on the inside rail where the ground was badly cut up. He won his first two starts over hurdles and found 2m6f too short when a close-up third at Navan last time.

This stiff three miles will suit. Backing all of John McConnell’s 200 British runners would have found 45 winners and shown a small profit (+£5.68 to a £1 level stake at SP). His non-festival Cheltenham runners have form figures of 0920134111 (4-10) for a profit of £31.75.

CALVINIST – (4.15 Cheltenham, 1pt each-way - 16/1)

CALVINIST tends to run best at this time of year and, since his racecourse debut, he has form figures from late August until the end of October of 1761521209110114 (7-16).

He was only beaten by two lengths when fourth of five at Worcester last time, a highly-encouraging effort as he was beaten miles on his only other course outing over those fixed-brush style hurdles. He won in the corresponding week last year and looks to have been underrated in the market.

DULAS – (4.30 Newbury, 1pt each-way - 14/1)

I was all set to back Molls Memory in this race but stall 1 could leave her exposed on the far side and I was hoping for bigger than 9-2 about the winner of this race for the last two years. I might still have a small interest but the main play has to be DULAS.

The Charles Hills-trained four-year-old used to make the running but has been ridden patiently in her recent starts and that’s good news given the forecast headwind. She caught the eye when a 10-1 third over course and distance last time, doing best of those drawn high and best of those to come from off the pace.

Her latest win came on soft ground off a 1lb higher mark and the booking of James Doyle, on board last time, points to another patient ride.

PETITE POWER – (4.50 Cheltenham, 0.5pt each-way - 16/1)

PETITE POWER looks very interesting in this 3m1f amateur riders’ handicap chase now back with the Fergal O’Brien yard. The veteran has a long history of running well when fresh, landing this race off a 2lb lower mark on his seasonal debut in 2019 and placing at 14-1 when reappearing in the 2017 renewal.

He had three runs for Dai Burchell in the spring and the only one that came after a break of at least five weeks saw him short-headed off this mark at Chepstow when trying to come from the rear on a pace-favouring track.

LEBOWSKI – (5.25 Cheltenham, 0.5pt each-way - 28/1)

LEBOWSKI went into my tracker after his short-head 12-1 second in a Huntingdon bumper for Adrian Wintle last December, as he did well to finish so close after racing in the ‘swamp’ towards the inside rail.

He placed at Chepstow next time and was probably unsuited to making the running when only fifth at Huntingdon on his final outing. He’s joined in-form Michael Scudamore, who has won with three of the last six stable switchers he’s trained for this owner (winners at 9-2, 9-4 and 2-1 as well as a 10-1 second), and is worth chancing on his hurdles debut.

[LADY IN FRANCE]((http://wlvirginbetuk.adsrv.eacdn.com/C.ashx?btag=a_45001b_115c_&affid=33077&siteid=45001&adid=115&c=)) – (7.15 Dundalk, 1pt win - 12/1)

This Group 3 sprint has been a good race for British raiders and LADY IN FRANCE looks very interesting now back on the all-weather. She won at Newcastle in May 2019 on her only previous all-weather outing, beating odds-on favourite Moss Gill into second, and the daughter of Showcasing is bred to appreciate the switch to Polytrack for the first time.

She’s been very highly tried on occasions this year, running in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp last time, and now returns to a more realistic level. Karl Burke’s horses are going well again after a quiet spell and I like the booking of Chris Hayes.
