Top tipster Andrew Mount found winners on Saturday and Sunday and has bets at Ayr, Kempton and Windsor on Monday
PAVERS PRIDE – 12.05 Ayr
PAVERS PRIDE was unlucky when we bet him at Hamilton last time, blowing the start before staying on strongly into a half-length second behind Shesadabber. The winner followed up off a 4lb higher mark and the third, Marietta Robusti, went two places better at 18-1 yesterday. The fifth-placed horse, Boudica Bay, also scored next time and the form looks solid for the grade. Star Citizen looks a tough rival on paper - he bolted up at 22-1 over course and distance in first-time cheekpieces on his latest outing, but that was on much softer going and New Approach offspring who win in first-time cheekpieces usually regress next time, with only one winner (1-2 favourite) from eight runners (a small sample size, admittedly). Pavers Pride has gone up 3lb but he’s still 9lb lower than his career peak mark for Noel Wilson and looks open to improvement on only his third run for Paul Midgley.
OPEN WIDE – 1.35 Windsor
There’s plenty of early pace in this 6f handicap, especially among those drawn near the inside rail (low draws) and it could be set up for a finisher out wide who can avoid traffic trouble. Step forward course expert OPEN WIDE (stall 11 of 12), whose record here reads 12222312 (2-8), with the latest defeat by a head at 8-1 in a 16-runner Class 2 handicap. He’s 1lb lower in today’s Class 3 contest and a wide draw is ideal for this hold-up performer, whose two course wins came form stalls 9 of 10 and 9 of 9. If we ignore his 5f runs his Windsor figures improve to 1222312 (2-6) and, famous last words, it’s hard to see him finishing out of the first three.
GREGORIAN GIRL – 8.45 Kempton
There’s a few I want to take on in the 1m Unibet Handicap that closes Kempton’s card (8.45) – The Game Of Life, who was probably flattered by challenging late when the pace collapsed at Chelmsford last time, Roca Magica, who was one of only a couple in the race to get cover from the headwind when scoring at Yarmouth and Confrerie whose sire, Society Rock, is 1-83 with his progeny in Kempton handicaps. GREGORIAN GIRL, fourth in Roca Magica’s Yarmouth race, is taken to reverse the form. She raced keenly near the head of affairs under a 5lb claiming jockey that day, failing to get cover from the headwind but still did best of the quartet or raced up with the pace. George Downing takes over in the saddle and he’s only 1b higher than when scoring over course and distance from a wide draw last September. Her course record in 7f-1m handicaps reads 12168 (2-5), with the latest defeat when in need of the run on last month’s comeback.
