Top tipster Andrew Mount has been in good form this week and he has five selection on the final day of Glorious Goodwood
TREACHEROUS - 1.50 Goodwood
TREACHEROUS won at Haydock on his latest outing despite failing to settle and can continue his progression by landing the Stewards’ Cup Consolation race. He has a fine strike-rate for one who usually plies his trade at Class 4 level, landing ten of his 29 career starts, and he’s always struck me as the type who would improve for the step up in class as the stronger pace helps him to settle – his Class 2 Newcastle 16-1 fourth to Glen Shiel from the worst of the draw being a good case in point. He’s best known as an all-weather performer, winning eight times on synthetics, but hasn’t had many opportunities in turf sprints. His 6f record on turf reads 011 (2-2), with the ‘duck egg’ coming at Ascot in a race not run to suit.
WEDDING DATE & CONCIERGE – 3.35 Goodwood
Mick Attwater has shown a profit in recent years with horses that he takes over from other yards at this first time of asking and those that ran over 6f on their stable debut finished 1122 (2-4), at respective odds of 9-1, 25-1, 20-1 and 20-1. That’s obviously a very small sample size but it’s encouraging where CONCIERGE is concerned. The four-year-old has changed hands for 25,000gns since struggling to stay 7f on slow ground when fifth at Haydock a few weeks ago and ran a really nice race at Newcastle on his penultimate start, finishing fifth to Glen Shiel in a hot Class 2 handicap. That form has worked out well – the winner ran second at 23-1 in a French Group 3 next time, the runner-up scored in Group 3 company at Newbury, third-placed Rathbone was a 20-1 fifth of 19 at York and the fourth, Treacherous, won at Haydock. Polytrack doesn’t seem to be his surface but his 6f record on turf or Tapeta, without headgear, stands at 301573175 (2-9). He runs off 87 here, having been rated as high as 99 last year.
Less speculative is a bet on WEDDING DATE, who ran really well against the draw bias when sixth at Ascot three weeks ago. It was a big advantage to be drawn high that day, with the first five drawn in stalls 18, 19, 20, 17 and 11. Wedding Date, drawn in stall 2 that day, was first home of those drawn in single figures and two others to race away from the favoured nearside rail have come out and won since at big prices – 11th placed Tone The Barone and 16th home Lahore. She’s always gone best after a recent outing, recording form figures of 1561216013330226 (4-16) when returned to the track within three weeks of her previous run.
INNER CIRCLE – 8.00 Chepstow
INNER CIRCLE runs well at this time of year and his July/August record in Class 5 or lower company stands at 1361122 (3-7), with the sole unplaced effort excusable as he sat too close to a very strong pace at Musselburgh. He was only beaten by a neck over course and distance last time and should again be thereabouts.
INTERNATIONALTIGER – 8.45 Hamilton
My tracker entry for INTERNATIONALTIGER last August said ‘First home of those drawn high. Back on nursery debut. Cheekpieces could help’. He’d run a fantastic race at Leicester in a 7f novice contest, finishing a 25-1 fifth of 18 and doing easily best of those drawn high. He never ran in a nursery but returned from wind surgery in January to finish a 16-1 second of six over one mile on his handicap debut at Newcastle. He’s struggled over shorter trips since but the step up to this extended mile could help and the headgear, which I thought could bring about improvement, finally goes on. Richard Fahey has a good record with first-time cheekpieces on turf, with the qualifiers who’d raced within the last four weeks landing 29 of their 146 starts since 2010 (19.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £86.75 to a £1 level stake at SP.
