Top tipster Andrew Mount has five selections over jumps on 'Super Stormy Saturday'
SAM BROWN (1.50 Ascot)
It’s difficult to know how much racing, if any, we’re going to get on Saturday afternoon, as Storm Dennis is forecast to wreak havoc. In the unlikely event that Ascot goes ahead I have to side with SAM BROWN in the Sodexo Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase (1.50). He found the drop to 2m4f against in Grace 2 company at Haydock last time where, after getting briefly outpaced, he stayed on strongly to hammer his rivals by 15 lengths plus. His record on good to soft or softer gong now reads 11111 (5-5).
DONNA’S DIAMOND & WEST APPROACH (2.05 Haydock)
DONNA’S DIAMOND has not been seen since her modest fifth in last year’s Unibet Rendlesham Hurdle (2.05) but the officially good ground was far too quick for him that day. He won the 2018 renewal of this Grade 2 contest on a heavy surface and is worth chancing at huge odds in Saturday’s renewal. He tends to come good in the new year, recording form figures from January to March, on soft or heavy going only, of 5111P4110 (5-9) for a profit of £45.38 to a £1 level stake.
In the same race I also want to back WEST APPROACH as the small field is ideal. He’s been plying his trade over fences of late but ran second at 40-1 to Paisley Park in the 2018 Long Walk Hurdle when last switching from chase to hurdle company. His full record in fields of seven or fewer runners reads 13125131351 (5-11), compared to a zero from 24 return in fields of eight or more.
MYPLACEATMIDNIGHT (3.00 Ascot)
MYPLACEATMIDNIGHT tends to come good in the second half of the peak jumps season, recording form figures of 131321F2 (3-8) from January to April. He found only Limited Reserve, a subsequent Grade 3 handicap hurdle winner off a 5lb higher mark, too good at Taunton last time and can go one better in Ascot’s Give The Guft Of Membership Handicap Hurdle (3.00).
GERONIMO (3.15 Haydock)
We’re coming to the end of the Sandy Thomson peak period for another season but we can squeeze out some more profits courtesy of GERONIMO who goes in the Unibet Grand National Trial Handicap Chase over the extended 3m4f (3.15). He performed miracles to score over a woefully inadequate 2m4f trip at Newcastle on his reappearance in December and kept on well when third over 3m here next time. He scored over 3m3f at Ayr last season and the return to this sort of trip looks ideal. HIs trainer’s record from November to February, since the start of 2013, stands at 67 winners from 340 runners (19.7% strike-rate) for a huge profit of £208.56 to a £1 level stake at SP.
