Top tipster Andrew Mount has six bets lined up at Warwick, Market Rasen and Kempton on Saturday
ASK PADDY – (12.20 Market Rasen, 2pts - 5/1)
ASK PADDY rattled off a hat-trick in February/March 2017 and won four from four when cheekpieces were fitted in January/February of last year. He went without his usual headgear when fifth of six at Catterick in November but the cheekpieces are back on here. His record over obstacles in January/February reads 451121111 (6-9), improving to 21111 (4-5) over fences only.
GOLAN FORTUNE – (1.50 Warwick, 2pts - 6/1)
Outsider of three GOLAN FORTUNE switched to fences late in the day, scoring at Ludlow in early December before running a fine 40-1 fourth in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day where he finished eight lengths behind the winner. This is his time of year – his record from November to January stands at five from 19 for a profit of £18.75 to a £1 level stake at SP - and he’s certainly benefitted from professional handling the last twice (he used to be ridden by an amateur jockey in his hurdle races, often losing out in close finishes as a result). His prominent style is usually favoured at Warwick and I’m happy to take on 7-4 second favourite Fiddlerontheroof whose yard continues to struggle for winners. Those looking for a more cautious approach may want to back him without the favourite Next Destination or in a forecast to finish second to the odds-on favourite.
DJANGO DJANGO – (3.00 Warwick, 1pt each-way - 12/1)
DJANGO DJANGO was never competitive under a patient ride at Newbury last time but perhaps today’s race was the plan all along and the first-time cheekpieces often induce improvement from Jonjo O’Neill-trainer runners. He was four from ten in this headgear last year (+£27.50), including Cloth Cap won the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at 9-1. DJANGO DJANGO has form figures in January of 2171 (2-4), with the runner-up effort at 40-1, and his yard seems to have turned the corner after a quiet December.
SAINT DALINA – (3.35 Warwick, 1pt each-way - 22/1)
It was a big advantage to race wide at Uttoxeter’s meeting on December 18th but 8-11 favourite SAINT DALINA took the inside route and had to settle for a three-length second behind 11-1 shot Mr Harp, who re-opposes here. Mr Harp is open to further improvement but he raced wide on the better ground that day and Charlie Longsdon’s mare, a bigger price than her old rival, is taken to reverse the form. Her trainer’s two previous runners in this Pertemps Qualifier produced a 12-1 winner and a 20-1 third.
AMBER ISLAND – (7:00 Kempton, 2pts - 9/2)
David Loughnane is in fine form, with five winners from 19 runners in the past fortnight, and he can strike with AMBER ISLAND in this 7f Class 3 handicap. She was far from disgraced when finishing fifth on unfavourable terms in a Class 2 conditions contest at Wolverhampton last time (she raced off the same weight as runner-up Shimmering Dawn but would have been receiving 21lb from that one were the race a handicap) and had won a handicap over the same trip and track the time before. The return to Polytrack looks ideal (her sire has a 15% strike-rate here compared to just 11% on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface) and she should get a good pace to aim at despite the small field.
NO DIGGITY – (Kempton 8.20, 2pts win - 4/1)
There looks to be plenty of pace on from the likes of Stingybark Creek, Chetan and Perfect Sunset, so I’m expecting the race to be set up for a low-drawn stalker. Step Forward NO DIGGITY, who looks ideally drawn in stall 2. He was only fourth under a 7lb claimer at Wolverhampton last time but clocked a good time and Hollie Doyle, on board when Nick Littmoden’s gelding won at the same venue in late November, is back in the saddle. The switch back to Polytrack won’t hurt and his sole run over course and distance saw him finish second at 20-1 from a poor draw in stall 10 of 11 (winner drawn in stall 2)
