Top tipster Andrew Mount was among the winners again on Friday and has four selections on Saturday
LIHOU – (2.20 Lingfield, 1pt Win -9/1)
LIHOU, who won twice at Chester, goes left-handed on the all-weather for the first time and it could bring about a return to form. He won at right-handed Kempton on his all-weather debut back in April 2018 and his three subsequent runs on synthetics also took place at that venue where he was badly drawn and/or up against a pace bias. He did well to run third at Goodwood in September as he pressed the early pace in a race run to suit the closers and 6f on heavy ground put too much emphasis on stamina at Newbury last time.
WHOLESTONE – (2.25 Haydock, 1pt Each-Way - 28/1)
WHOLESTONE raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside of the track when only fifth at Wetherby on his comeback and that 34-length defeat is easily forgiven. That was also his first run for 11 months and the Nigel Twiston-Davies horses are running better now. He runs in a handicap for the first time since his Aintree win off 158 at this time two years ago and is 9lb lower today. He goes well at this time of year, with figures of 211261215291 (5-12) from November to January.
ARID STEEL – 6.00 Wolverhampton, 0.5pt Each-Way - 100/1)
ARID STEEL is a massive price but looks worth chancing to very small stakes after a promising debut effort at Southwell. She was beaten by 15 lengths into fifth of the seven runners but was poorly drawn in stall 2 and hampered early on. Arthur’s Angel, who was involved in the early scrimmaging that day, has run well since and a host of other low-drawn runners from that meeting have turned in solid efforts, notably Gravity Force who was second at 25-1 at Doncaster and Jazz Legend, fourth at 80-1 back at Southwell. The chances are we won’t see the best of her until handicapping but at 100-1 I can’t resist.
CEMHAAN – (7.30 Wolverhampton, 1pt Each-way - 9/1)
In the past five years, George Baker is four from 26 at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards for a profit of £24.00. CEMHAAN seemed ill at ease on the track at Chelmsford when fifth in a 1m handicap on his final start for John Gosden and though he has won on Polytrack, he’s bred to appreciate the switch to Tapeta for the first time. His sire, Muhaarar, is five from 27 here (18.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £10.78 and he’s been gelded since his last run.
