Top tipster Andrew Mount found 15-2 Chelmsford winner Bayston Hill on Friday and has six bets on Saturday
ONE FOR THE TEAM – (12.40 Newbury, 1.5pt win - 7/1)
Intensive home schooling was not part of the make-up of the Nick Williams yard when I had horses with them and his chasers usually learnt the job via experience on the track. It was quite surprising to see ONE FOR THE TEAM go off as favourite on his chase debut here earlier this month when he looked set for second place behind Kalooki before unseating late on. In the past five years had we bet an Nick (and Jane) Williams-trained chasers at the second time of asking we would have won five of our 21 bets and made a profit of £15.93 to a £1 level stake at SP. Another five finished second and One For The Team, who had a good record at this venue over hurdles, looks surely to improve for that initial experience and rates a good bet with Tom Scudamore taking over from Chester Williams.
COURT MASTER – (1.15 Newbury, 1pt win - 13/2)
COURT MASTER looks the sole pace in this 2m6.6f handicap chase and is taken to make all. He’s done will since wind surgery, winning on good ground at Warwick (2m4f), going down by a head in second at Market Rasen (2m5.5f) and finding the cut back to 2m4f against when a two-length fourth at today’s venue. He scored over 2m7.5f here last December and his yard is in good form.
SILVER STREAK – (2.05 Newcastle, 1pt win - 13/2)
Regular readers will know how big a fan I am of SILVER STREAK and he remains underrated in the market here despite another scintillating performance on his comeback at Kempton where he slammed the odds-on Henderson-trained Verdana Blue despite drifting from 11-4 to 9-2. Since joining current trainer Evan Williams his record when fresh (after a break of approximately six weeks or longer) stands at 11112U113161 (7-11) with the third (80-1) and sixth (20-1) coming in the Champion Hurdle. He wasn’t beaten far in third place on heavy ground in this race 12 months ago, when the steady early pace was also against him. Today’s renewal looSks set to be run at a stronger gallop and the good ground is very much in his favour, making the chance of him upsetting another Henderson hotpot a real possibility. I advised him as a 1pt each-way bet at 6-1 on Tuesday (three places) and if you’re not already on or want to have a ‘press up’ (as I’m doing) the best way to play the race is to to back him to win and also have a bet without the favourite (Epatente).
FLORESSA – (2.25 Newbury, 1pt each-way - 14/1)
Marie’s Rock looks solid enough at the head of the betting in this Listed handicap hurdle but it’s stablemate Floressa who appeals at the early prices. Henderson won this with Epatante last year and he also took the honours in 2014 and 2012. HIs three runners in last year’s renewal actually finished 1-2-3 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see FLORESSA cause an upset or at least chase home the favourite (I’ll also be looking to back her without the favourite when that market is priced up later). Floressa was only ninth when last seen but that was at the Cheltenham festival and I;m not convinced that she likes undulating tracks. Her record on flat courses stands at 11212 (3-5), with the first runner-up effort by a short head over course and distance and the other a three-length Doncaster defeat by Lady Buttons. She’s two from two on her seasonal debuts and won the Listed mares’ novices’ hurdle at this meeting last year.
TWO FOR GOLD – 3.00 Newbury, 1pt each-way - 10/1)
I advised an antepost bet on SECRET INVESTOR in Tuesday’s column and the 16-1 available the is now around half that. I also want to side with TWO FOR GOLD who ran a solid second over an inadequate 2m3.5f trip at Wetherby on his return to action late last month. He won three times last season before his Grade 2 Reynoldstown Chase second to Copperhead, despite the soft ground not being ideal. Quicker conditions and the step up in trip are expected to bring about further improvement and his full record left-handed reads 11411112 (6-8), improving to 11111 (5-5) outside of his seasonal debuts.
