Top Tipster Andrew Mount has several bets on Ascot’s Champions Day card on Saturday, some at huge prices. Check them out below, alongside an exclusive bet365 offer which provides new customers with up to £100 in bet credits
VENTURA DIAMOND – (2.00 Ascot, 1pt each-way - 66/1)
VENTURA DIAMOND placed at 50-1 when I put her up for the Group 3 Bengough Stakes over course and distance last time and I want to support her again. She thrived at this time last year, catching the eye when a best-of-the-high-draws 40-1 sixth of 21 in the Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar before wins on heavy ground at Leicester and Newmarket.
The drying ground is not ideal but there should still be enough juice in it and her patient running style will be an asset in a race chock full of early pace.
AINSDALE – (2.00 Ascot, 0.5pt win - 100/1)
AINSDALE was a 28-1 fourth in the same course and distance race as Ventura Diamond last time, taking his record in October to 111414 (4-6). He fared best of those to race up with the pace and I’m, hoping Clifford Lee will revert to the patient tactics that have served him so well in the past.
INVITE – (2.35 Ascot, 1pt each-way - 6/1)
INVITE could be called the winner some way out when successful in Listed company at Chester on his debut for Andrew Balding, taking her record in Britain to 12211 (3-5).
Ascot should suit her patient running style and she arrives here must fresher than the majority of her rivals, Arc fourth Snowfall will be happier taking on her own sex again but she lost her form last autumn and may have had enough for the year.
NJORD – (3:10pm Ascot, 1pt each-way - 80/1)
NJORD was only 11th of the 15 runners when I liked his chances at Longchamp last time, but he meet trouble in running and, with the benefit of hindsight, I shouldn’t have backed him in a big field. He has won in big fields before but when he did so in a field of 18 at the Curragh he raced very wide and avoided traffic trouble and when he bolted up in the Balmoral on this card last year they split into two groups and he wasn’t crowded.
With only ten runners and a wide draw (stall 8 of 10), he should be able to get a clear run. He obviously needs to improve to win but stepping back up to 1m will suit and I’m hopeful that he can stay on into the frame for his in-form yard.
DUBAI HONOUR – 3.50 Ascot, 1pt win - 8/1)
This is an absolute belter and there may be some value in opposing the front end of the market – Mishriff was arguably flattered by his Juddmonte International win at York where the majority of his rivals were vulnerable on account of trip or ground and Adayar had a tough race on heavy going in France just 13 days ago.
DUBAI HONOUR arrives here as a relatively fresh horse and has been hugely progressive since gelded, recording form figures of 4111 (3-4), with the defeat most unlucky as he ‘won’ the race on the far side when 28-1 for the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. He too raced in France just 13 days ago but he landed that Group 2 contest with relative ease on what was just his fourth start in the past 12 months.
FOXES TALES – (3.50 Ascot, 0.5pt each-way - 66/1)
FOXES TALES is also worth a dabble at huge odds. Silvestre De Sousa’s recent Ascot record is a concern – just one winner from 70 rides since racing resumed after lockdown last summer – but there’s compensation in the price.
The three-year-old completely failed to handle the track at Chester in May but his other runs since his racecourse debut have yielded form figures of 11212 (3-5), with the first defeat by a head to Dubai Honour and the other by a neck to Solid Stone at Newbury where the 1m3f trip may have been a shade too far.
He wears blinkers for the first time and his sire, Zoffany, is showing a profit of £71.00 with his first-time blinkered offspring. He probably doesn’t deserve to be around ten times the price of Dubai Honour
