Top tipster Andrew Mount has four selections on Super Sunday, including a pair of selections at Sandown
THEATRO – 1.30 Haydock
I wrote the following about THEATRO in the Racing Post Weekender after her Pontefract third last month… ‘Theatro, off the bridle early and always trapped wide from a tricky middle draw, was only narrowly denied in third and should be winning soon. It paid to be drawn low at Pontefract's opening meeting and the five handicap winners came from stalls 1 of 8, 1 of 12, 2 of 9, 3 of 11 and 4 of 12. Theatro, drawn in stall 7 of 11 (adjusted for the non-runner) in the 1m4f VW Van Centre (West Yorkshire) Ltd Handicap, was four wide approaching the first turn and was being nudged along after half a mile. Jedd O'Keeffe's filly was still niggled and going nowhere in mid-division approaching the two-furlong pole but kept on very strongly in the closing stages to go down by just half a length in third. Both her wins came at Ripon on good to soft going but she has plenty of form on more conventional tracks - finishing a close-up third over 1m6f at Haydock before finding only Goshen too good at Nottingham.’
The slow ground will suit here and she’s likely to be an each-way price.
LIBERTY BEACH - 1.50 Sandown
Last year’s winner LIBERTY BEACH looks well drawn in stall 6 and should get the race run to suit. She was a fine third in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes to Battaash on her latest start, gets 3lb from the favourite Lazuli and will relish the likely strong pace. Her record at this 5f trip now reads 11411 (4-6) improving to 1111 (4-4) away from Ascot.
STONIFIC – 5.35 Doncaster
STONIFIC, who likes to come late off a strong pace in big fields, can be forgiven his modest fourth of five at Haydock on his recent comeback and is taken to bounce back in this 17-runner 1m4f apprentice handicap. His best Flat efforts have come in this Class 4 grade, with form figures in fields of 11 or more runners of 211600163 (3-9) for a profit of £17.25 to £1. His two Class 4 big-field Doncaster runs produced a 14-1 win and 18-1 second and he also won here over hurdles.
SPORTS REPORTER – 6.05 Doncaster
With a strong headwind forecast it should pay to come from off the pace at Doncaster today and SPORTS REPORTER is taken to get off the mark in the 6f finale. Richard Fahey’s gelding was an eyecatching fifth over trip and track on his comeback, doing best of those drawn low and second best of those ridden patiently in a race run to suit handy types. The drop to 5f was against him when a close-up third to the progressive Bal Mal at Musselburgh the other day but that run still gives him the best last-time out seeped figure in today’s line-up.
HARBOUR POINT raced on the slowest part of the track when a front-running fifth to Bal Mal at Beverley and would have been a bet for the headwind.
