YorkTop tipster Andrew Mount heads to Ripon for two bets on Sunday***

HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM (3.05 Ripon, 1.5pts win 11/2)

HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM fared second best of the closers when fourth in the Royal Mile Handicap at Musselburgh on his seasonal return, a run that was probably needed. The ground would have been quicker than ideal too and he won on soft ground second time out last term.

Aside from seasonal debuts, his record reads 1251 (2-4), with the first defeat by just half a length to Recovery Run in an Ayr nursery – the winner’s mark has since shot up from 85 to 103 – and the other by two lengths when doing best of those ridden patiently in a hot nursery at York.

TOM TULLIVER (5.05 Ripon, 1pt win 9/1)

Identifying and opposing weak favourites is an important punting strategy and I think that Moonraker qualifies as one in this 5f handicap. He scored impressively on Southwell’s Fibresand on his latest outing but his record following a win reads 7470383 (0-7), with the latest third place at odds of 15-8. When finishing second on his latest start his record reads 7000 (0-4) and he looks like a horse who struggles to put two good runs back-to-back. But what to take him on with?

Dapper Man, winner of this race in 2018, will appreciate the small field but he’d prefer quicker going and faces pace pressure from Yolo Again, who has the rail draw, and possibly Harrogate, another who prefers faster ground. The quartet mentioned are the first four in William Hill’s current betting, suggesting there’s plenty of value at the bigger prices.

Bellevarde’s record on her first turf run each calendar year reads 27212 (1-5). She has possibilities but lack of a run since March 8th and her yard’s form make 6-1 look a little skinny. James Unett hardly has a prolific strike-rate with horses he takes over from other yards (three from 106 this century) but that’s improved more recently (3-33 since 2013) and plenty have placed at big prices and the last six to start at odds of 12-1 or less recorded form figures of 222161 (2-6).

TOM TULLIVER was an eyecatcher for Declan Carroll at when tenth at Redcar in October - stalls 4, 1 and 3 of 13 provided the tricast and he ram much better than his finishing position suggested – and he ran fourth of 12 against the draw/pace bias at Nottingham next time before scoring on Fibresand. The 6f trip stretched him when only fifth at Southwell last time and he’s worth chancing back on slow turf in first-time cheekpieces.
