Top tipster Andrew Mount found 7-1 (from 9-1) Lingfield winner Lihou on Saturday and has five bets on Sunday
THE BAY WARRIOR – (1.40 Wolverhampton, 0;5pts each-way - 22/1)
Mark Usher has his string in good form and THE BAY WARRIOR, a non-runner from a poor wide draw at Chelmsford recently, can be expected to improve now handicapping in first-time cheekpieces. He didn’t handle the right-handed track at Kempton last time and his trainer has a four from 23 record with this headgear in handicap company since 2018 for a profit of £43.00 to a £1 level stake at SP.
Fibresand winners often struggle to follow up when switched to Tapeta and I’m happy to oppose 5-2 favourite Velocistar under a penalty. PRUDHOE disappointed at Musselburgh on her nursery debut last time but had the worst of the draw and ducked right on leaving the stalls. She’s bred to appreciatetoday's surface and progeny of Heeraat have a six from 30 record when switching from turf to Wolverhampton for a profit of £61.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Trainer Bryan Smart had a winner at Nendastle on Friday night and she could start much shorter than the current 12-1 top price.
I’m also going to have a speculative interest on RED WALLS, from the same sire as Prudhoe. He’s been on the wrong part of the track at Southwell the last twice, racing stands’ side in a 5f nursery and then making the running up the inner over 6f when sixth to Velocistar last time. The switch to Tapeta and drop back to 5f will help.
HORN OF PLENTY – (4.00 Wolverhampton, 1pt win - 5/1)
Backing 3yo progeny of Golden Horn since August 1st would have found 37 winners from 113 runners (32.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £28.75. HORN OF PLENTY improved for the step up to 1m4f when runner-up to an odds-on favourite at Chester in August and she clearly had breathing issues when down the field at Bath next time. She’s had wind surgery since that run (Andrew Balding is two from four with his first-time wind op runners on the all-weather) and she can be supported to get off the mark for her in-form yard.
WAQAAS – 5.00 Wolverhampton, 0.5pt each-way - 16/1)
WAQAAS needs plenty of room in his races and his stall 10 of 11 draw (adjusted for the non-runner) could well help him here. His previous wins have come when drawn 2 of 11 (straight 6f), 9 of 9 (straight 7f) and 10 of 11 (today’s course and distance). After that latest success, his first for Mark Usher, his trainer said his charge had ‘appreciated having racing room to its outside’. Stall 2 was no help to him when seventh of 13 at Chelmsford last time where’s he’s also paid for chasing the strong early pace, doing third best of the prominent racers.
