Top Tipster Andrew Mount found Tosen Wish (100-30 from 7-1) from his two bets on Wednesday and has four selections on Thursday, including a confident 3-pointer. YOU SOME BOY – (4.50 Carlisle, 1pt win - 14/1)
YOU SOME BOY caught the eye on his racecourse debut at Newcastle in January, finishing a 20-1 four-length fourth in an all-weather bumper after making the running.
Such tactics are hard to pull off and it’s interesting to note that the horse who sat closest to him in the early stages – Pitempton Power – dropped away to finish last of seven but is now rated 105 over hurdles.
You Some Boy showed some promise at big prices in three novice/maiden hurdles, with all the runs suggesting that he was being brought along with handicaps in mind. Rebecca Menzies is two from six with handicap hurdle debutants for owner John Wade (winners at 12-1 and 10-1) and an opening mark of 86 could underestimate him.
LUCKY MAN – (8.00 Wolverhampton, 3pts win - 100/30)
This 5f nursery looks like it’s going to be a real ‘burn up’ with multiple pacesetters and three of the runners wearing blinkers for the first time. It could be set up nicely for LUCKY MAN, who failed to live up to his name when making his handicap debut at Chelmsford last month.
Heavily backed despite being drawn wide in stall 9 of 10, he was keen to post, started slowly, lost ground by switching to the inside yet still only went down by ahead in second place to Jazzy Princess (who reopposes here).
More interestingly, his breeding suggests that the switch to Tapeta will suit. His sire, Kodi Bear, has an eight from 33 record with his runners at Wolverhampton for a profit of £62.95 to a £1 level stake at SP.
EL PATRON – (8.30 Wolverhampton, 1pt win - 14/1)
Mark Loughnane has a solid record with runners having their first attempt at an all-weather handicap, scoring with 13 of the 129 qualifiers for a profit of £94.33 to a £1 level stake at SP.
His last seven runners on this system have produced winners at 40-1, 12-1 and 100-30, as well as a 12-1 second. EL PATRON, who returns from a break of 405 days, has been gelded since we last saw him and is worth a small interest.
RITCHIE VALENS - (8:30pm Wolverhampton, 1pt win - 8;:30pm)
RITCHIE VALENS was added to the tracker after being withdrawn with a self-certificate at Chelmsford on October 9. He was drawn in stall 14 of 14 that day and, though not brilliantly drawn in stall 10 tonight, I want to back him if he turns up.
He was second off a 5lb higher mark when last running at this track and he outran his odds in a valuable Racing League Handicap at Lingfield last time, finishing a 66-1 seventh of 12 from the worst of the draw.
