Top tipster Andrew Mount heads to Catterick, Nottingham and Roscommon for four bets on a busy Tuesday. Check out his selections below, which are backable via the Tote and their exclusive new customer offer.
WRITTEN BROADCAST – (2.10 Catterick, 1pt each-way, 16/1)
17-race maiden WRITTEN BROADCAST ran much better than his finishing position suggested when eighth of 11 at Musselburgh last time, as his patient style was at a big disadvantage. The winner made all that day and other hold-up horses have boosted the form, notably third-placed Oriental Lilly who won at Ayr next time (2-1f), fourth-placed Irish Eileen who was second at Wolverhampton (11-2) and seventh home Glengarry, a 17-2 winner here at Catterick when advised in this column.
Written Broadcast was only half a length behind that one from a wider draw and the drop back to 6f won’t harm his chances. His best effort shave come at about this time of year, with form figures in July/August of 3293323 (0-7), suggesting he holds place claims at the very least.
ALICE AVRIL – (6.40 Roscommon, 1pt win, 15/8)
ALICE AVRIL raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail when a modest third in a beginners chase at Limerick on last month’s debut for Henry De Bromhead.
That run, her first for six months and first since leaving France, was probably needed and the return to this 2m trip won’t harm her chances. Other ‘swamp dwellers’ from that meeting have come out and won or run with credit in defeat since and she’s worth chancing to small stakes.
AMALFI SALSA – (7.20 Nottingham, 1pt each-way, 6/1)
Early pace was the key ingredient in the 9.4f handicap won by Ghostly at Wolverhampton on July 14, with the first three described as 'close up. Chased leader over 8f out', 'soon led' and 'chased leaders'.
Marco Botti's AMALFI SALSA fared best of the hold-up horses in fourth and was the one to take from the race. Good to soft ground should hold no fears for the daughter of Mastercraftsman and the big field could help pull her into contention late on.
GOLDEN DOVE – (7.50 Nottingham, 2pt win, 8/1)
GOLDEN DOVE went into the tracker after last month’s Leicester fourth where she did second best of those to come from off the pace in a three and-a-half-length fourth. Runner-up Atavique, best of the hold-up horses, went one better at Newmarket last Friday, doing well to overcome another strong pace bias.
Golden Dove had also caught the eye at Beverley the time before, racing down the middle on the slowest part of the track. Further rain won’t harm her chances – something that cannot be said for current 6-4 favourite Jewel In My Crown – and she looks overpriced.
