Top tipster Andrew Mount found two winners (both advised at 4-1) from three bets on Monday (he also recommended the 24-1 double) and has five selections across three races on Day 1 of Royal Ascot 2021
ARECIBO – (3.40 Ascot, 1pt each-way - 33/1)
ARECIBO has yet to win in a field of more than 11 runners but has improved considerably since joining spring king Robert Cowell, landing handicaps at Newmarket either side of an unlucky effort in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes. He looks certain to encounter the strong pace that suits and is well drawn in stall 15 of 16 if the GoingStick is to be believed. Jamie Spencer looks an ideal booking and, granted luck in running, he could get involved at big odds.
LUCKY VEGA – (4.20 Ascot, 1pt win - 15/2)
LUCKY VEGA was up against a strong pace bias when fourth in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh, doing best of those to come from off the pace. That was a huge run in the circumstances and he looks over-priced here.
CHINDIT - (4:20pm Ascot, 1.5pts win - 9/1)
CHINDIT took his record away from Newmarket to 1111 (4-4) when landing the Greenham Stakes at Newbury on his comeback and his subsequent fifth in the 2000 Guineas deserved an upgrade, as he failed to settle, didn’t look comfortable on the track and raced away from the principals.
BLUE CUP - (Ascot 5.35, 1pt win - 9/1)
The first-time hood helped BLUE CUP to settle at Epsom where he arrived late to land a 1m2f handicap by five and a half lengths on good to soft going. His patient style is traditionally favoured in this 1m2f Listed contest and the quicker ground won’t inconvenience him. Stall 2 is a slight concern but William Buick rides the round course well and is showing a profit of £37.88 on his mounts over 1m2f-1m4f.
FATHER OF JAZZ - (Ascot 5:35pm - 0.5pts each-way - 33/1)
Given their potential stud value it’s rare for a son of Kingman to be gelded, but they have good record, winning five of their 19 starts for a profit of £6.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. Ten of the 14 beaten horses finished second, third or fourth and it could be worth chancing FATHER OF JAZZ at a huge price. Trainer Roger Varian shows a profit with his handicapper on their first start since being gelded and three of the five he’s run at Ascot have won. The four-year-old was a three-time all-weather winner last winter despite racing keenly on occasions and finished third in the Winter Derby. He drop to a straight mile didn’t seem to suit at Doncaster last time and if gelding ahs ironed out his quirks then he’s no 33-1 shot.
