Top tipster Andrew Mount has four picks across three races on the all-weather cards at Newcastle and Kempton on Tuesday
With the track dry and powdery it was hard to come from too far off the pace at Newcastle on Monday and, as per usual, those drawn low struggled in the big-field 7f and 1m races. The 1m Betway Handicap (1.20) looks very playable as Dark Vision (stall 1 of 12) takes a chunk out of the market (4-1 with William Hill at the time of writing). He lacks Tapeta form and his sire, Dream Ahead, hasn’t got a great record at this venue. Fifth Position (stall 4) could also have been better berthed and I’m happy to oppose the current 3-1 favourite, although the switch to Tapeta should pose no problems on breeding. Pace angle CLUB WEXFORD (stall 9) looks worth chancing to small stakes. Roger Fell’s runners performed well on Monday and the veteran tends to peak at this time of year, recording form figures of 0253151745111 (5-13) over 1m from May to July. It’s late in the day to be making his all-weather debut but there’s compensation in the price.
Since handicapping, BRAVO FAISAL has form figures of 121 (2-3) on fast turf or Tapeta, with the defeat by a head. Gelded over the winter, he has gone well after a break before and looks over-priced at around the 16-1 mark in the 7f Betway Casino Handicap(1.55).
Brian Meehan’s runners often improve on first start after being gelded (six from 32 in recent years for a profit of £24.00) and AMPLIFY (stall 5 of 10) looks very interesting in the 5f Unibet Handicap at Kempton with Oisin Murphy up. He has the prominent running style that has proved so effective over this course and distance of late and he remains open to improvement on the all-weather. He’s 0-4 on artificial surfaces but two of those took place over one mile and his sole 5f Polytrack run (when fifth at Chelmsford) is easily forgiven as he was drawn widest of all. His full 5f record stands at 2105100 (2-7), improving to 2151 (2-4) in fields of 11 or fewer runners.
MERCENARY ROSE (stall 9), who likes to blaze a trail, is worth a saver. This course and distance winner has the early speed to get across from her wide draw and the switch from cheekpieces back to the tongue-tie could help.
