Top tipster Andrew Mount found 4-1 Bath scorer Corbulo (9-1 advised) from three selections on Tuesday and has four picks at Nottingham and Catterick Check out his selections below, along with a pair of excellent sign-up offers for nrew customers, just in time for the Grand National meeting starting on Thursday.
NIGHT NARCISSUS – (3.10 Nottingham, 2pts win - 9/4)
NIGHT NARCISSUS ran an astonishing race at Kempton last time, finishing second by a neck despite getting in a fierce three-way battle for the lead in a five-runner apprentice handicap. The two others who cut out the early running faded into four and fifth, beaten by ten and 17 and a half lengths. The fourth – Nortonthorpe Boy – has won since and the fifth – Obtuse – finished second at 15-2 on his next start. Night Narcissus was an all-the-way winner at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start and looks very interesting back on turf for the first time since his racecourse debut when a close-up third at Haydock.
ALIX JAMES – (3.50 Catterick, 2pts win - 7/4)
George Boughey’s new acquisitions usually take a couple of runs before reaching peak fitness and ALIX JAMES got up in the dying strides to score at Wolverhampton nine days ago on his third outing for the yard. Runner-up Gobi Sunset has boosted the form and Alix James looks the likely pace angle from stall 2. His two turf wins for Iain Jardine both came under forcing tactics on sharp tracks and he can make all, despite never having won on ground this fast.
AYR HARBOUR - (4:40pm Nottingham, 1pt win - 7/1)
Finest Sound has been backed into 11-8 from 9-4 with William Hill but he’s only won once from seven starts and looks best in big fields. Nottingham’s round course can be a pacesetters paradise and, with only five rivals to tow him along, he could be vulnerable. I’m siding with likely front-runner AYR HARBOUR, who was drawn out of it at Lingfield on Good Friday, doing well to finish fourth of 14 from stall 14. His record in fields of seven or fewer runners reads 115561121 (5-9) and he could get left alone in front. He needs to prove his effectiveness on turf but there’s compensation in the general offer of 7-1.
TURN ON THE CHARM - (4.40 Nottingham, 1pt win - 9/2)
I have to confess my love for TURN ON THE CHARM and I also want to back James Fanshawe’s runner. He did well to win from off the pace at Kempton last August when it was hard to make up ground from the back and he duly followed up over today’s course and distance, despite the small field. He did best of the centre group at Redcar on his final outing, is proven when fresh and will be happier back on a turning track.
