Top tipster Andrew Mount was among the winners again on Tuesday and has four bets at Ayr, Lingfield and Newton Abbot on Wednesday
SEPAHI – 2.40 Ayr
SEPAHI, a five-time all-weather winner, has yet to score from five runs on turf but has rarely encountered the flat track she needs. She ran poorly at Pontefract on her turf debut back in June 2018 and didn’t run on grass again for 11 months when only sixth of nine at Leicester. After that run the trainer’s representative said that the ”filly would prefer a flatter track” and she ran much better at Thirsk next time, finishing third at 33-1. A poor run followed at undulating Chepstow before her only other flat-track turf outing, a 20-1 second at Yarmouth in August of last year. The big field/strong pace will suit and she’s worth chancing despite running off a career-high mark thanks to her last-time-out Kempton success. It’s also worth noting that this will be her first turf run for Shaun Keightley, who has improved her from a mark of 60 to 76 in just half a dozen starts.
DOUBLY CLEVER – 2.50 Newton Abbot
DOUBLY CLEVER won comfortably over course and distance last time, taking his jumps record in July or August to 1110142211 (6-10) for a profit of £18.19 to a £1 level stake at SP. He’s gone up 7lb for his latest effort but looks more than capable of following up.
ALIOSKI – 3.10 Ayr
There’s no obvious pacesetter in this 7f handicap and perhaps Kevin Ryan’s ALIOSKI will elect to make the running under Kevin Stott now that he’s fitted with first-time cheekpieces. Trainer and jockey had a well-backed winner in this headgear at Leicester last Sunday (Byline), taking their record when combining with first-time cheekpieces in handicaps since 2010 to eight winners from 27 runners (29.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £52.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. The step up from 6f could suit
SHIFTING GOLD – 8.05 Lingfield
SHIFTING GOLD is a quirky old so-and-so but she can usually be relied upon to run her race granted a big field/strong pace scenario. She ran a sour race at Sandown last time but will be happier back on Polytrack in a bigger field and has form figures on this surface over 1m2f-1m4f of 031713 (2-6), improving to 11 (2-2) over 1m4f in fields of 12 or more runners. The steady pace was against her when a modest third of six on her latest course and distance outing but she was sent off as the 7-4 favourite that day and today’s general price of 14-1 looks an overreaction.
